@DShepley what’s the ceiling height in the golffice?  are you hitting wedges and short irons into that net or can you go through the bag?

The ceiling height is 8'10".  I am only 5'7" and have a fairly flat plane, so I can hit through my bag in here.  There is 8' between the hitting mat and net and I can hit a PW but haven't tried anything less than that.  I mostly just hit mid / long irons, but I can also swing woods.  Once I decide on a launch monitor, I will have to put some sort of baffle on the ceiling to protect from wedges.

I'm hoping for a fast melt. We got a melt last week and the ditch in front of my green had an ice dam form.  My green froze under a layer of ice and has been this way for a couple days. My greens keeping friend suggested spreading some black oil sunflower seeds on it once the weather gets mild to speed up the thaw.

Last night I managed to snag a deal on Facebook Marketplace for a brand new mini fridge which may be the most important 'Golffice' upgrade yet.  I also stopped at the variety store in the small town where I picked it up and was met with a not so hot selection of beer so I decided on the greasy old Labatt 50...I mean, who doesn't like an ale?!  Oh,.....and for your viewing pleasure, here is a video of me putting some terrible swings on an 8 iron, (I really would like to see the shaft more vertical in the backswing and it annoys me to no end that as hard as I try, I can never seem to prevent that trail knee from locking out).

Big news!!  I ordered a Mevo+ with Pro Package last night.  Cory Gauvreau at Par2Pro had one of their product specialists phone me and we spoke for about an hour about set up requirements, what the system does well, what it can struggle with, etc., to determine if it would work for my needs.  I'm pretty excited about it and need to think about some modifications to my stance mat and will need to build a putting track.  I'm also interested to see how I can incorporate the Mevo+ into the occasional practice session out on my green.  Now....to find a suitable iOS device without breaking the bank.

This would be much cheaper!  I did manage to make about 25 gallons of hard apple cider from the trees on my yard in the fall.  It was our first attempt and we need to do some tweaking, but it turned out to be drinkable but super dry and really boozy!  They require some moderate caution.

Yeah, there's a recipe in homebrew circles for what is called Apfelwein, a German hard apple cider. It's basically 5 gal of apple juice, 2# sugar, and a packet of wine yeast. SUPER simple to do. 

 

It comes out bone-dry and pretty boozy (~8% ABV IIRC). The sugar in the juice, and the additional sugar added, is all 100% fermentable, so there is nothing in the recipe to leave ANY sweetness in the finished product. Some people back-sweeten it with non-fermentable sweeteners to add back that sweetness that many people expect from a hard cider. Others use additives that will kill the yeast and halt fermentation when it gets to a certain gravity to keep sweetness. I just make it as-is--I prefer it dry. 

 

Speaking of which--I have everything in my garage for another batch. Maybe I should make one up 😉

I like it dry as well. I added a bit of sugar when bottling to hopefully carbonate it. Ours is about 8% ABV. I bought a 50 gallon wine press in the summer and we got busy grinding and pressing apples in the fall. We pasteurized the juice and used Nottingham Ale yeast and another ale yeast where the name escapes me at the moment. We just bottled a second batch and I have a carboy racked off and aging now. It needs some more tannins, I read that people add black tea to improve that. Next year maybe.

Nice! You can get a refurbished ipad from Amazon (at least down here south of the border) for relatively cheap (think about US$250).
