Which of these Super Game Improvement irons would you buy: Callaway Fusion WideSole, COBRA S9, CALLAWAY BIG BERTHA or are you going to wait till 2008 and buy Callaway FT i-brid??.

Anyone who is currently playing with any of these irons - if you don't mind, please give me your opinion of how they played for you.

thanks

Poncho, just suck it up and man up. Buy a set of MP33s and step back to the tips. LOL.
Take a look at the Fusions wide soles or the G10s with graphite. Good luck.

When I decided to try a game improvement iron, I found a new set of Callaway Big Bertha 2004 on ebay. They are truly easy to hit.
After playing most of this summer with the Big Bertha's I think I am going to try something a little different and less game improving
this year. I have been looking at the Mizuno line.

IMHO, any of the Callaway's are great.

Hello all!! Whilst I'm not yet a "senior" I am getting there faster than I'd like to admit!!!!!! :drinks:
I'm looking at picking up a set of clubs for my father who is 68. He's never been a good player due to 2 facts: 1) he plays for enjoyment, not scoring, and 2) he's never had the time to devote to getting better. That being said you can guess that his swing isn't exactly a thing of beauty. He's always liked Ping but has never been willing to pull the trigger since he could never justify paying so much. I really want to get him a set of Pings but if there are other super GI clubs that I should be looking at (eg. Callaway, Adams, etc) I would greatly appreciate any input you may have. I'm looking at the Ping G10's and raptures.

Any reason why you want to switch? What did'nt you like about the game improving irons? Did they help lower your score?[/quote]

Poncho,

I used the Big Berthas to get my swing back after a long lay off. I found the BBs were a little difficult to work left or right.
If you like high straight shots then the BBs are great. I am still looking at various irons.
I have bought another set, but have not played them. I still like the Mizunos. My son just
bought a set of Adams that he is very happy with. So I may look at the Adams too.

Just got the Cobra S9's (last years models) for $399.99 at golfsmith. 4-gw, reg flex nippon steel. I've played with the Ping G2's, TaylorMade RAC HT's, Big Bertha 2002's, Titleist 755's, Bridgestone J33's.

The S9's are the best I've played to date. Very forgiving and the stock shafts feel great.

Just a note: this forum is great but I started to get dillusional about the types of clubs I should play. All the talk about driving it 400 yards and a 200 yard 8 iron made me think I needed more club than my ablility allows. Go with what's easiest to hit so you can have fun playing golf.

Def, One thing to always remember if you have played golf for at least one season in your lifetime, and you are over the age of ten. The ridiculous claims that you hear or read, of shots wth exorbitant distances with any given clubs, are just that...."Ridiculous Claims." The people making these claims are people you would pay no attention to, regardess of the topic under discussion. You know it, I know it, and most assuredly.......They know it! :)

Its wonderful and commendable that you want to buy your Dad a new set of irons. Can I adopt you? I am 55. I played golf once or twice a year for ther past 24 years. Then I had emergency heart by-pass surgery and during my recovery I decided I was going to become a golfer, the best I could be. So, when I could start swinging clubs again, I hit every GI iron, super GI iron and some of the more forgiving players' irons, over and over. My observations were these: I can't hit Mizunos or Titlesists at all. What I hit best were the TM R7s and the Ping G10s. Close behind were the Cobra s9s, Nike Sumo2 and the new Big Berthas, in that order. I didn't like the lack of feeling in the Fusion Wide-Soles. Then, my family surprised me with a set of TaylorMade Japan XR irons (very similar to Tour Burners). I couldn't hit them very well at first--they were too good for my game, my swing. Now, after 3 months of 2-3 times a week range sessions and 18 holes each week, I hit them just fine. Point is--different swings will hit different clubs better than others. You gotta get your dad to hit some balls with some clubs, see what filts his swing. If you can't, I'd go with the G10s because they seemed the most versatile; I simply could not mishit those irons. Good luck.
