C-Taper lite question

Question for anyone playing c-taper lites or with knowledge of them. I tried the KBS online tool and it recommended X flex in the CTL. I am currently playing stiff shafts in the FLT model but I know KBS can recommend stiffer flexes in the lighter weight shafts. Have people gone up a flex in the CTL if they are coming from something heavier? Thanks!

I went from X-flex Modus 105 to S-flex CTL. This was after a club champion fitting. My driver SS is 109-111 but I seem to hit lighter weight, mid launch-mid spin shafts the best.

How are you hitting your current shafts?

Really depends on what you're looking for in the ctl vs the flt. If you're wanting better head weight feel by going to the lighter shaft, you're not going to get that by going to X flex.

The Titleist shaft performance guide is useful, it gives you butt and tip frequency for most of the KBS shafts, all in stiff flex. Comparing CTL with FLT you can see that the CTL is definitely softer than the FLT, so I makes sense that KBS is recommending a stiffer flex. You should hit the CTL if possible, its a much different feel from the FLT. You're also not really going to a much lighter shaft, CTL-X is 115g vs FLT-S at 120g.

I’ve played KBS Tour 120 stiffs and CTL X flex. It was very comparable. Differences were CTL X flew a little more penetrating and it cut a little spin, which is what I wanted. Excellent shaft. It’s not super stiff, definitely easier to load than standard C Taper stiffs.

Flex labels don’t mean much, weight does. I had KBS tell me that the C Taper Lite X flex (115g) and the C Taper R-plus (115g) are very close to being the same. The torque on the CTL X is 2.5, like most of their iron lineup, so it should feel pretty good. I also have played the CTL X flex soft-stepped once and couldn’t really tell any difference.

I went from Modus 105s to CTL in x-stiff. A comfortable switch, I would say they are both really smooth shafts, I have not really noticed the extra weight, ball flight may be slightly flatter in the CTL but dispersion is better. I was cynical re a switch to x-stiff, my driver speed is only c100 mph but they work really well for me.

Considering this exact switch. What were your long term results?

Modus 105, to me and my feels, plays 1/2 flex softer than CTLs.  Going 105X to CTL stiff is probably Ok.  Test 1st.

 

The Mizuno optimizer always wants me to be in CTLs but they always feel like it takes a lot of effort to make them work and they come out lower than I prefer.  In terms of bend feels, they're close to same.  Linear, lose stiffness down shaft.  I like the mellower, higher launching 105.

Just put the KBS tour S in the bag. Considering the c taper lite s as well. Any insight on the comparison?

Just my experience. Feel and apparent response are not that different. Both feel quite one piece, in other words close to the opposite of a ProjectX LZ.

 

The actual ball flight and spin were quite different though. In order to get adequate numbers with the Tour, I needed to go with R. Both have some degree of spin suppression, but the tour combines that with a mid-trajectory, while the CTL’s were significantly higher. The result, when applied to my ZX5’s, were long, high shots with CTL’s and mid-trajectory, mid-spin mediocre distance with the Tours. 
 

IMO the tour is best suited to a player who hits the ball highish normally, but doesn’t want to forego feel with a rebar model to help control it.

Have you tried an $ Taper Lite S?  I was hitting those 3 shafts when demoing Mizzy 243 and 245s and the $ Taper Lite gave me CTL like flight in something that felt more like the other two shafts.  Unfortunately, Mizuno does not offer the $ Taper Lite this year so I am now deciding between T150s and i530s.

what is the difference between $ taper lite and the other shafts?

$ Taper Lite felt the best for me and had a flight similar to CTL but slightly higher.  Tour Lite was the next best for me.  Seeing that you play the Modus 105 already, I was just throwing out another KBS that might fit you.

I was able to demo my 7 iron with Tour Lite S yesterday on the course and was shocked with the results. My Modus 105s goes low and without any spin and holding greens is a challenge. Tour Lite goes high and far and just lands at a perfect descent angle to hold greens. The shaft feels light but stable, while the Modus feels much more heavy and stiff. 

I was only able to hit 7 shots with the iron on the course, but so far very impressed and will be out there again tomorrow for another demo. I will never demo an iron inside, off mats or any place other than out on the course. Need to seem ballflight and divots in real time
