20 Handicap

Iron Set

I am currently a 20 handicap working on lowering it to 10 (at least thats the goal). I would like to get some recomendations for some irons. My swing speed in mid 80's currently and I need to have them extended by 1". I will be purchasing them this weekend. I have hit the Lynx TI3 from Golfsmith and Pin Seekers from Roger Dunn. Any help would be great. :tongue:

I am a Huge fan of the mizuno line I am currently playing MX 23's and I LOVE them... I started the year at a 24 hc and am currently at a 19 so i have been pleased with the way these clubs have performed...

Golfsmith is having a big sale starting tomorrow, that is why I am looking to get it this week. If you have something that goes for 500-600, I could look at those if they are are sale.

Go with a major name brand, so the clubs hold their value a little better instead of a component set...

Callaway Big Bertha 04'

Cobra 3100's

Hogan BH5

No i havent. I need to get them extended by 1". Plus I have golfsmith gift certs that i can use.

Ping Eye 2.....hit them, love them, buy them. The best selling cavity back iron evah for a reason.

Ping G2, most forgiving irons ever and can be had pretty cheap now.

I second that. And if you can find a set of the original OS and not the OS2 then you can get them even cheaper. Look on eBay and then use your certificates to get the clubs reshafted at Golfsmith. Just because there's a sale doesn't mean you should rush in and buy something because it's at a discount if you haven't done your homework either.

What are your weakness?

For example, I am around 16 handicap and I can strike the ball well. My weakness is putting.

 

I guess my point is, try to find what area is your weakness and try to get a game improvement club(s) for that area.

I have just started playing the game again. the last 3 rounds i have averaged out to a 20 handicap. The clubs that I have are Wilson Blades that were given to me. They are standard size. I need clubs that are 1" over. That is why I am getting new clubs.

I would recommend Mizuno as well. I went through the same thing as you about 9 mths ago. After talking to my local shop owner about how I was playing, what I was wanting to accomplish and my price range, they recommended the Mizuno MX-17s. I haven't been disappointed in the least.

 

I was ready to pop the champange if I came close to breaking 100, now I'm regularly in the mid 80s and have flirted with breaking 80 a couple of times lately. They're advertized as a game improvement iron and I can testify they definitely are.

Check out the Cleveland TA6's when you go to try out irons. I was very pleased with how they performed against other "game improvement" irons.

Talor Made rac LT. It's the best cast iron, period, and perfectly suited to a 20 looking to be a 10..

Mizuno Mx-23 - forged, forgiving and great :)
