Need Help With Purchasing Clubs

Hello all,

I am looking to get my wife some newer irons and a driver. She has really took to the game and want to upgrade from the cheap starter set that I bought her.

What sites do you recommend for purchasing clubs for a decent price? I am wary of ebay because I dont want to get anything fake or not a good quality.

I would love any suggestions!!!

Thanks!! :busted2:

I'm not here to bust any bubbles...BUT

If she didn't "take to the game" with the set you originally got her, what makes you think she will now?
Is a new set of clubs the answer? If you truly think it is, by all means, get a new set. But it's almost like getting new clubs to fix your slice...we've all been there...the real problem is always hiding right under your nose!

I wouldn't get her a new set until she can get the ball airborne and in the general direction she's aiming 8 or 9 times out of 10. I don't mean to sound harsh, but like I said, if she wasn't into the game before, a new set of clubs might be a band-aid for a few outings, but won't miraculously make her a golf-lover.

Withdrew, I think he stated that his wife really took to the game so he wanted to get even a better set. Anyway, I think Adams is a good idea. Oh, that's almost a joke. Callaway has some nice ladies clubs too. I was talking with a callaway rep and he was saying how they make clubs for ladies not men's pink clubs. SOmething about all the input from the LPGA players. But, those ladies play better than most men and have swing speeds that are much more the the above average male than women. SO, I don't know how that helps the average woman golfer.

He said she really took to the game, not the other way around.

My wife has been playing on and off for about two years. Now that she is done with school she would ike to play more and the cheap $300 set(Driver-Everything) are old and getting worn out. I understand that practice makes her a better golfer, but I want her to have clubs that look great and instill confidence.

I think that is what most people on this site arew all about! Having a great set of sticks that look great, play well, and give us confidence at address. Why should my wife be any different!!

For quality fullsets

Mizuno Sora set 11 clubs with integrated lofts from Driver (15*) 3w (19*) 5w (23*) 7h 6-sw and putter + bag

Adams fullset A3OS Driver, 3 and 5w, 4,5 and 6 boxer hybrids, 7-GW, SW , putter and bag

Check golfio.com they seem to have a good range of womens clubs, the Adams and Mizuno are pretty high quality stuff

Check out rockbottomgolf.com as well, they have a great deal on the 3dx hybrid iron set that comes with the 3dx square driver for $499. Its a bit more hardcore looking than the powder blue and pinked out full ladies sets. They also have good deals on sets of Adams a2OS irons and ladies BUL drivers.

Don't know if she would be interested, but Adams makes a set (don't remember the name)
but its 7 clubs and a bag, really high quality looking, and I'm sure it is. It has a driver, faiway wood,
hybrid, long iron, mid iron, and short iron with a putter, and sharp looking light-weight bag,
(all color coordinated) Sells for like $399.99 and makes the game simple.

Best thing to do is read the replies and jot down some of the good suggestions on clubs. Then when your ready to purchase you'll need to take her with you. Let her hit as many clubs as possible and finally let her pick the set she likes. I'm suggesting this because if you pick the set and she isn't satisfied with them, then they will do nothing for her confidence in her game. I once had a conversation with an old golf pro at the local course here and he said that whenever someone asks him what clubs they should buy, he suggests that they get something THEY think looks good. What do you think? ya think the old guy is on to something?

My 12 yr old daughter's bag is: Taylormade R7 TP's with Dynalite shafts, Vokey Wedges (2), Ping G2 with Aldila NV 65R, Cleveland Launcher 15 deg Graphite Design R, Odyssey 2 Ball putter.

My wife has a similar bag with Cally X-16 Pro Set with R300s and 3,4,5,7 woods (Cally Gems). Hope this helps and encourage her every chance you get.

ALL were bought or traded for right here on golfwrx.

If you really want to instill confidence, arrange a club fitting with one of the local pros registered with Ping, Callaway, etc. Sure, those are expensive sets, but the lady will get something that works for her not you and some website or boxstore. In some instances, the fitter will charge if you don't purchase clubs from him/her, but so you drop $100 - 150 for the advise... then go to tgw or other used club source for last year's model(s). DO NOT make the mistake of insulting her or her abilities by presenting her with some set that you selected for no better reason than the price was right or a bunch of DB hacks suggested them.

+1

You wouldn't want her picking out clubs for you, so don't try to do it for her. There are too many variables and the odds of getting it right are against you.

Take her to a demo day, or arrange a fitting as Debit suggested. Let her look at the clubs to see if they fit her eye. Let her swing the clubs to get fit correctly.

It may end up costly a little bit more now. But if you try to do it yourself, it will probably ending up costing you a lot more later because the set may not be right for her and she will need a replacement. And don't limit her to "ladies" clubs. Clubs are clubs.

And if its a present and you need something to wrap, give her a bag (easily returnable if she doesn't like it) with cardboard cutouts of clubs that say something like "This is exchangeable for the real club of your choice."

Congrats are getting your lady hooked. Enjoy.

  • 5 weeks later...

I hate to say it, but there are a lot of retailers that are now selling sets on eBay. Find the set you want (fitting/suggestions above/etc) and look on eBay first.

I got a brand new wedge and driver on eBay from the above mentioned rockbottomgolf on eBay for a total of $38.

I am always looking on there for a new set for the wife. The cheapie sets you find at Big 5 for $300 are under $125 (that's with the shipping) on eBay.

adams a20s 7 piece set, was all it was called. and they just released an a3os 8pc set as well for this year...

I say pick up a set of last years a20s 12 piece... you can get them for around 700$ now and the quality is great...
