PXG 0211 vs Mavrik Pro Irons

Hey guys,

I'm new to the WRX forum and was wondering if anyone has played the PXG 0211 or Callaway Mavrik Pro irons, and if so, what their thoughts are? I'm getting back into golf after a long layoff and shoot in the 83-88 range. I'm looking for an iron set that is closer to a player's iron as I want to put the emphasis on continual improvement, rather than just relying on the extra forgiveness and distance in a game improvement clubs, plus I do prefer the look of a thinner top line and less offset. Budget also plays a role since I recently started grad school, so I can't really spend $1,200-1,400. It seems the two good options for the $800 or less range would be the PXG 0211 and Mavrik Pro. Any input, comparison, or thoughts on these clubs is greatly appreciated. Currently have a Ping G410 driver & hybrid, Jaws MD5 wedges in a 52,56, 60 setup, along with an Odyssey Triple Track putter.

P.S.- I've demo'd the Mavrik pro and hit them pretty well as far and distance and dispersion goes, but my location in NJ doesn't have anywhere nearby to demo PXG

I played both this summer. 0211 with the MMT 70 shafts and Pros with stock steel shaft. I did like both and the Pros did look compact and felt great on solid hits. As to top line, I’m impressed with how thin the 0211 looks at address given it’s more game improvement. The pros looked great too. One of the better looking Callaway offerings recently, I think.  I stuck with the 0211s - I needed the longer blade length for toe misses and the graphite for wrists and elbows. Plus, they were slightly longer distance wise and better dispersion for me. And at $89 per club with a graphite as a no charge shaft.

Appreciate the response! To be honest, when I stopped playing golf, PXG didn’t even exist yet, so I’m glad to know they stack up well. I do like the look of both, and certainly the 0211 $89/club is incredible

PXG has an ebay store "PXG Express" that appears to have some good offerings that save even a little more.  I'm on the fence and might go for it.

Definitely check this out if you're leaning towards the 0211s. I've seen some sets (used) that can be had for great prices. I've considered pulling the trigger a couple times just to try them.

Any specific reason(s) ?

Just personal OCD. When everything is from the same line if clubs it makes me feel like I'm playing a cheap box set. Even if it's high end stuff.

I like to mix it up.
