Ping G410 Adapter Settings Revisited

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was lucky enough to get a G410LST as a replacement for my cracked G400Max and I had a couple questions about the G410 adapter settings.

Ping says:

"Trajectory Tuning 2.0 in the G410 drivers utilizes a lightweight, aerodynamic hosel sleeve that provides eight positions for influencing ball flight through loft (±1.5°) and lie adjustments, including up to 3° flatter than standard."

spacer.png

1.) Is the flat setting exactly 3 degrees flat for each of those options? Or is it only 3 degrees flat for one of those options? Which one?

2.) How does the face angle change with each of these options? My understanding of adapter settings is that lofting down opens the face while lofting up closes the face (effectively). Is this still true for the G410?

3.) My miss is left and I want the driver to sit the most open at address and be flat. Is my best option the F-?

Thanks all!

1.  No, not possible.  The flattest setting will be the 'F' setting and the most upright will be the 'O' setting.

2) Face angle changes 1.8* for each 1* of loft change.

3) Assuming you're right handed, the best option to try first will likely be the "F-" or maybe even the big '-' setting. The more open face angle tends to be much more effective at managing shot shape and direction than the lie angle.  But that's a generalization so don't hesitate to test and compare with other settings.

Thank you!

To clarify my first question: Ping quotes as "up to 3 degrees flat" and I was asking if each of the 3 flat settings(F, F-, and F+) are exactly 3 degrees flat or are the graduated?

Awesome, I haven't seen this chart before. Do you know anything about face angle changes with each setting?

I'm not an expert here, just someone who likes to tinker.  But my assumption is the face angle changes approx the same amount the lift changes.  So if you lower the loft one degree the face will open approx. one degree.

I understood that.  That's what the 'No, not possible" was answering.

No, it's more.  See my first response.  The relationship between loft change and face angle change is geometrically fixed.  It's the same for every adapter and head.  The only thing that's specific to the head is what the base face angle might be (face angle at the 0* loft settings).

Got it.  I'm not sure how the math works there but when you lower the loft 1* it is for sure noticeably more open.  I have my driver set that way, and have tinkered with the FW's, but I think I prefer then standard.  I did have some success lowering the loft on the 5 wood for awhile and essentially making it a 4 wood and dropping the 3.

So the F- position would be 8 degrees loft, 2 degrees flat (59.5 to 57.5) and 1.8 degrees open (from standard)?

Correct.  Well that is if you believe the charts.   Should be roughly correct but I've found that most of the companies round the numbers (both lofts and lies) up or down on these types of charts to make them look 'neater' so it might not be exact.

I'm a lefty. And I hit the ball left on my bad hits would moving the flat angle of the driver help that. And which setting would I use

Going flat = more left(for lefty)

Can someone help me interpret this?

Looking at the driver column, the flat settings have a lower numbers which I assume means they are more open. Both the “+” and “-“ settings also have lower numbers than the neutral “0” setting at 59.5.

Conventional wisdom is that increasing loft closes the face and vice versa.

I currently play a 9 degree turned up to 10. If I lower that back to the neutral 9 degree setting, does this chart suggest it’ll actually close the face a bit?

Those numbers on the chart are lie angle.  An opening or closing of the face is about face angle.  Two completely different specs.

All heads will close 1.8* for every 1* of loft increase and open 1.8* for every 1* of loft decreased.   But that's relative to whatever the standard face angle might be.
