Knoxville, TN anyone?

Sadly, one of my buddies is moving from SoCal to TN in about a week for a job transfer and is looking into joining a country club.  He has been in touch with a few but he's born and raised out here and really doesn't know all the nooks and crannies of the Knoxville area when it comes to golf.  If anyone here has any recommendations for a private club in the area, please throw it out here.  I'll miss having him in the weekly group but want him to be in his own golf heaven once he leaves LOL.  

 

Nicest course, combined with great atmosphere, food, and any other amenities....  Any suggestions for him to look into?

If he's just looking for the nicest course it's definitely Holston Hills. 

 

Oak Ridge is another good option but it's a bit further out. Approximately 30 minutes from Knoxville.

Cherokee is a blue blood old money club, right? Not sure you can just roll into town, call up and complete a membership application to get in there.  
 

Holston Hills is a bit more welcoming since they’re on the “wrong” side of town these days. It is a great course for sure! Historic clubhouse. 
 

Fox Den is probably both attainable and convenient, assuming he will live on the west side of town. Decent layout, good conditions.

Holston Hills is probably his best bet if golf is his priority. Knoxville is strange, some decent courses but you’d think it would have some nicer options based off population.

Yeah, thanks.  I think that is what he's looking at.  He just got there so he's getting settled in but I think once he is, the CC is next priority!!

I agree they probably deserve some better country club options, though the daily fee options are better than what we have here, especially if you include the courses within thirty minutes which gets you down to TN National, Rarity Bay, and Tellico Village.

It totally depends on how he plans to use a country club, but if pure golf is number one then Holston Hills is a great option. 

 

If he's looking for it to be the center of his social life he'd probably be better off choosing a club closer to where he lives. I'm assuming he is living on the West side because it seems like practically everyone does these days.

I think it's going to be more geared towards golf.  For now, he's renting so it's worth considering depending on where he ends up when he buys.  I know nothing about it, I just want a nice place to play when I visit.  LOLOLOL

Haha, yeah I get it. 

 

Holston is great, very challenging. They grow their Bermuda rough high in the summer and it is brutal if you're missing fairways.
