Best Way to Watch Tour for Cheap / Free?

Hello Everyone,

 

I don't have cable.  (I know, I know, but I'm pinching pennies.)  I'm curious the best way to watch the Tour for cheap or free online.  Sometimes I go to cbssports.com and, for some reason, I can just click on whatever golf tournament is up that week and it streams live for free.  NBCsports will give a 5 minute free preview, but then cuts me off.  Though, one time, a few weeks ago, it gave a 45 minute free preview––but I've not seen that since.  

 

I see there's FUBO, but that seems really expensive per month.  I see DisneyPlus has this option to add ESPN+, and that's pretty cheap per month, but it doesn't seem ESPN+ shows any live golf.  PGAtour.com has some monthly options––are they any good?  The list of tournaments covered doesn't include the majors (which seems ridiculous) so I'm not inclined to sign up. 

 

So, is there a good, inexpensive way to live stream the tour?  Or do I just need to bite the bullet and pony up some money>

Over the air antennas will pick up most major networks (ABC, CBS, etc.) depending upon your location.

 

They are pretty cheap.

 

These days those channels are broadcast over the air in HD and the picture is great...often better than cable or satellite.

The majors are not operated by the PGA Tour, you wouldn’t find any livestreams for those on the tour’s site. The Masters app is free and awesome.  I haven’t really watched the Open, US Open or PGA aside from whatever channel they are on during the week but I’m sure others have and will weigh in.

Amazon pga live or whatever it's called is $70 a year. You get Thursdays and Fridays and featured groups and holes. Commercial free.

I used to be in the same situation and honestly never found the perfect option. I now have Hulu Live which is great, but it runs me $65/month. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find a single source so you may have to pick and choose what you want.

 

HD Antenna

Pros = $20 off amazon and will pick up the major channels (NBC, CBS, etc.) in HD with great clarity

Cons = if you aren't close to a major city then this may not work for you, and you'll really only be able to watch the weekend coverage since these channels don't air the weekday play

 

Live Streaming Options (Hulu, Youtube, SlingTV, etc.)

Pros = you can get a plan that includes The Golf Channel, ESPN, and the major networks (NBC, CBS, etc.) so you should be able to watch the whole tournament Thurs-Sun

Cons = $35-75/month depending on what plan you get

 

ESPN+, PGAtour.com subscription, etc.

I'd shy away from these altogether. Aside from the first two days of the Master's ESPN doesn't do golf and to my knowledge PGAtour.com only offers "featured groups" so you're only getting to watch 10-15 players each week.

Find a buddy to go halfsies on PGA Tour Live and share login. Two can be logged in at same time. Antenna for Saturday and Sunday.

If you're an Amazon Prime member, most of the Saturday/Sunday rounds are streamed on Prime Video for free.
