Best course to play in Pensacola FL?

I will be staying in Pensacola Beach and would like to get one round of golf in while I am there. Which course do you prefer? I have been looking into Perdido Bay, Lost Key, and Tiger Point since they all look close to water and I am guessing would provide the best scenery. I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Of the courses mentioned I have only played Lost Key and it was nothing special.  Pretty typical resort/development course without much scenery, the only water I recall seeing on the course were the typical lakes and ponds.  You are not getting any marsh or bay views.

Agree with what NJPhil said about Lost Key. It's close to the beach, but you don't get any water views. Mainly just tree lined holes and a ton of ponds/hazards. Also, it's locally known as "Lost Ball" because of all the hazards. Definitely pack and extra dozen if you decide to play there. 

 

I'd recommend going and playing the AC Read course on the naval base in Pensacola. I'm not really sure what it's status is currently (open to the public or not), but I played it a few times several years ago and it was in good shape. You also get some bay/bayou views on several holes.

Yeah, I can't speak to Pensacola specifically, but I've played a fair amount of golf in the Ft. Walton Beach - Panama City stretch of the panhandle coast. 

 

My general impression has been - don't expect fabulous golf. You're better off going to a local muni or finding a cheap course inland. There really isn't much there. The resort courses generally suck when factoring in the price. 

 

If you wanted a treat, I'd suggest heading to Hombre in Panama city - they used to play the second round of Q-School there. But...apparently is has closed?!? So, I'm out of suggestions.

Over towards mobile bay/Daphne area I hear good things about Timber Creek and Rock Creek.  More of a drive but might be worth it if you are looking for better golf options.

I like The Club at Hidden Creek which is an easy drive.  It has been several years since I played.  Pensacola Country Club is prett easy to get on and would be first choice.  If you are a private club member have your pro call.  If not calling directly might work.

Windswept Dunes is an inland course in Freeport but has always been great when we've played it. I'm guessing it would be about an hour and a half drive from Pensacola

Windswept is great and where I play most of my golf in NW FL, really not much of an awesome golf scene other than that in the Panhandle... Rocky Bayou in Niceville is a great value, fun layout, and fairly well maintained.
