Membership Dues Increase

There's a lot of reasons dues change, especially on the lower end of the price range. As another poster mentioned if the "full" or "gold" members (note: GoldMember LOL) are losing out on tee times or just in general becoming a smaller portion of the pie, it can cause problems.

 

We regularly talk about participation in events and etc...When you have guys paying 5X what other members are because of their age.

 

it simply could be that other rates have gone up more than juniors over the years, or juniors just weren't paying a significant enough portion and their percent of the total members was growing etc...

 

At the end of the day if you can leave fairly easily and don't like their policies, it's your right

I don't know, when you say the increase was announced but it wasn't communicated in advance...isn't that sort of what they are doing by announcing it? When do those increases take place?  On the surface $500 seems reasonable - $300 seems pretty low. But I know one thing, clubs arent going to just throw it out there and say "oh hey we are thinking of increasing your dues, what do you think".

 

But at 500 members the club probably does some basic math and says OK we may lose a few members because of the increase but even after that our revenues are going up X%. Again it all depends on the books of the club, what their operating expenses are etc. To say nothing of having $4M in debt on two major project - that is probably what would worry me the most.

22% seems like a big jump and I'd be interested in how much full members increase (might have missed it?). It sounds like either a money grab or heard thinning or both.

 

My clubs dues were $650 last year, $700 this year and $750 next year. I think we have 28 members, but I only know about 6 of them. Dues are annual.

Full members were targeted for a 10% increase.  

 

It's definitely a money grab and with all the debt we have on the books I suppose now is the right time to start aggressively tackling that problem.

 

It wasn't my idea to add so many new junior members that was the board's bright idea.  Now that they realize their own mistake and its my problem now, that's the frustrating part.  

 

At any rate, its a good club with mostly good members and a great golf course so I should keep my biitching to a minimum.
