Scotty Cameron Futura putter

I've been using a Scotty Futura putter for almost two years and really like it. I experimented using brass weights that I made on a micro lathe. Each weight is 25 grams. My preference was using two placed towards the back of the putter. They are secured in place using 6/32" set screws. The putter had to be partially dissembled to drill and tap the holes. Adding the weights also muffled the loud pong sound some people found annoying. 

The two other modifications I did involved powder coating the top of the putter to prevent glare and round off the bottom of the face to lessen the chance of scuffing the bottom during the putting stroke.

I've got a pretty good story about how this putter got into my bag in 2003, and back in last year.

 

I bought this putter new in 2003 and fell in love with it immediately. Putting has always been the best part of my game and this putter just resonated with me; everything I looked at I thought I could make, and if I didn't it was usually a tap in 2 putt. In early 2004 I got a job with TaylorMade at the headquarters in Carlsbad, and in the first company tournament I still had this flatstick in the bag. Needless to say the guys in my group gave me endless s*** for gaming a Titleist putter at a TM event; I capitulated and the Futura was banished to my closet.

 

I worked for TM for the next 14 years, and in that time I must have gone through 25 or 30 putters; many of them fitted and built for me by the guys in the tour department to my specs and preferences. Some of those putters were really nice, and I liked them (I still have a few of them), but they just weren't quite the first gen Futura.

I left TM in 2017 to pursue a new career and at this point was not only was I completely burned out on the industry, I just needed a break from golf altogether, and I quit playing until May 2022. I texted one of my buddies still at TM and had him put together a custom set of irons, wedges, a 3 wood and a driver for me for my official return to golf. He asked "What about a putter?" I told him not to worry about it, I had an almost mint condition Cameron Futura in my closet and it was coming back out.

 

Still the greatest putter I've ever owned despite how ugly it is and the weird noise it makes. Took it to the Cameron Custom shop in Encinitas to have them throw a fresh grip on it and I'm thinking I'm going to have to buy a few more of these on eBay because I don't see myself ever using a different putter again.
