Looking for Opinions on a Couple Range Finders

Recommended Posts

I am just getting back into golf after a long time away, so definitely novice.  I’d like to get a range finder but never had one.  Doing a lot of reading and watching reviews  so I am looking for some experiences/opinions on a couple of them.

I have been looking at the Precision Pro NX9, Blue Tees S3 Max, and of course the Bushnell V4/V5 with slope.  I am not looking to spend $300+ for one so I have been looking at used or the lower priced models.

Of course there’s a ton of Bushnell’s out there and I know they must be good.  The NX9 and S3 are the 2 that I know less about or how they compare.

Anyone have any experiences with these and know how they compare?

I have an older Bushnell Z6 with jolt.  I think I got it 4 years ago for $150 used.

I tried a buddies pro XE and it was amazing in terms of the 7x magnification.  Made me want to invest in a new rangefinder, but the $550 price tag was too much for me.

Bought the Blue Tees S3 Max and while it's a nice rangefinder, I didn't think it was actually 7x magnification as it looked exactly the same as my Z6.  The pulse vibration was also for anything you shot, not just the pin, so often times I had to shoot the pin multiple times and compare it to shooting other objects before I felt confident I had the right number.  Kind of defeated the whole purpose.  Ended up returning it.  If I had nothing else to compare it to, or didn't already have the Z6, I probably would have been happy with it.

Made me realize my Z6 is fine.

So I recently had the Bushnell and it was stolen. So I didn’t want to fork the extra cash to replace so fo the Precision Pro NX9 with slope. Both work fine but my thought are you get what you pay for. I thought the Bushnell was a more sturdy build and the optics were better. I also like the Bushnell’s jolt better. As somebody said above, the PP jolts as well but it jolts picking up anything it seems. Most holes I am hitting it a few times to make sure it’s the flag. Could be mine but seems more with the PP. As for slope, for me it doesn’t seem worth it. I never had a slope rangefinder to compare to but this one is never more then a few yards different. I play a few holes that are really uphill/downhill and I have never gotten a slope reading more then 5 yards. Usually it’s 2-3 yards. The PP works fine and is a good cheaper option but if you can get the Bushnell in your price range I’d do that. PP has great service and trade in program so I was hoping I’d really like it. But I am seriously considering selling mine over the winter and going back to the Bushnell.

I'd recommend looking at the Nikon 20 Gii.  It's as good as a Bushnell and has better optics imo, and you can find them at a great price when on sale.  Nikon also has the best warranty I've seen (5 years).

I've also tried Precision Pro and was not impressed, thankfully they have a good refund policy.
