Would you do it again? Have always wanted to but tough to bring a first timer to Bandon for the solstice.

Once was enough for me.  It was fun, and a worthwhile pursuit, but the main reason I go to Bandon is to soak up the designs and aura and savor the moments.  You don't really get much chance to do that in the Solstice event.

 

Definitely would not recommend it for a first-timer.

Damn! I was on the "Waiting to be confirmed" list then just got an email that I am on the waitlist.

I thought I was in but when I filled out all the info and CC stuff it said it was full. I was thinking once you get into registration you’re good so wasn’t as quick filling out the info. Guess I’ll know for next year.

how badly is this thing going to handle me? looking to get a workout regime in the works to get ready for the 20+ miles out there.

My father and I got in as well, third year in a row!  This years golf genius info was a little wonky with multiple emails and confusing wording, so I didn’t consider myself in till I got the confirmation email from BD tonight!

I think I've boiled it down to this:

- if you can play 36 in five hours walking, you are set to Solstice. Do that 1-2 weeks before solstice. 

- Seed yourself honestly when it comes to pacing. You don't want to hold people up and don't want to be held up. We had some dick in front of us who wouldn't let us through.

- But all in all, its easy. Nothing to be worried about.

Hey all - lets do a quick roll call so maybe we can get to know people before we show up at Solstice. 

 

My partner and I  (Shack and Bob) are both 4-5 handicaps. Playing in 2022 for the 3rd time. I am from Gulf Coast and my buddy is from NYC.  We did the 2019 Solstice and completed 90 in 1 day with 3 other great guys. 5 total made it that day. In 2020, we brought an addition 2 guys, one being a 25 handicapper and he had a blast. We finished 85 that day (preserve). This year, we haven't figured anything out except that we booked a wrap around trip for an extra couple of days.

Feeling super lucky to have gotten into the 2022 solstice. Looks insane. And from some reports on last year's event, seems like they do a great job organizing this whole thing. Can't wait.

Hey guys, I was lucky enough to get in for the 2nd year in a row!  Seemed like it filled up even faster this year, if that's possible.  I think I was done with the signup at 8:03, and even then I had to sweat it out until the confirmation came through.  Definitely felt gratitude for getting in and am sorry for all of those who tried and didn't get a spot this year.

 

I'm a 9 and will be playing with my younger brother, who is currently a 24, both from Boston.  We are playing with the same twosome we (very fortunately) got grouped with last year, two buddies from Northern California, as I recall they were a 3 and a 15.  We all hit it off really well and wanted to do it again.

 

Last year I focused primarily on my physical fitness beforehand, a lot of walking and kettlebell/band work at home.  I felt well prepared and the physical challenge of the Solstice wasn't nearly as bad as I thought.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Shackman is right about being honest with your pace, you are going to hold people up if you say you'll play one pace and can't keep it up.  Some of the first groups out are flying around.  We said we'd be the slowest pace last year (3:30-4 per round) and did end up playing faster than that, but we never crept up on anyone or held anyone up.  As has been said, the event is incredibly well organized.

 

Tentative plan is to fly from BOS to PDX on Sunday and stay Sunday night in Salem, OR.  Arrive at Bandon in the AM Monday and play Trails, and either a 2nd Round or the Punchbowl Event.  After Solstice on Tuesday, play at least one more round Wednesday AM and either fly back redeye on Wed night or Thu AM.  Can't wait!

Man, the closer this gets, the more excited I get. I'm flying in on the 19th. Will likely hit the punch bowl and the range and wander around that afternoon. The 20th I'm playing Bandon Trails (I have an extra spot if anyone wants to join me). 21st is, well, the 21st. Then playing SR on the 22nd. Can't. Wait.

Six weeks away!!!  Hope folks are getting out hitting lots of balls and walking long distances.  I'm back this year with a friend from Bend, a friend from Portland, and a friend from Bandon.   Hoping we get good weather without lots of wind.  I think trails is the toughest walk and without it in the rotation this year, the hike might be a bit easier.

Signed up this weekend. My club needed an extra man to fill a team so put my hand up.

Never been to Bandon. With kids coming maybe next year, i thought I may as well do it, even though the Solstice is probably not the best way to experience Bandon for a noob.

 

Planning to play Trails on the 19th. My group get in 20th and we play Sheep Ranch, then Solstice on the 21st.
