Wasn’t this a Naples golf discussion. Now yall getting into politics of stolen land.  Free market decides. Nothing is given or stolen.

Cabot is alright. Needs more time.

It was a Naples thread, but there’s only like 5 of us in here anyways😂 Going to try to come up and play Cabot soon, will the layout be impressive once it settles in and matures? Also would love to get out and play elsewhere if I could treat you to a dinner or reimburse some other way.

I had so much love for the old layout and the value it provided for locals.  Seeing what they’re doing, sort of like pinehurst village, there’s going to be a lot of polarizing opinions about it.  50 dollar green fees vs potentially 300+.  Cabot Nova Scotia had the ocean front cliffs 6 months a year. Brooksville is nothing but trees and hills. Though everything Cabot does is world class.  That comes at a cost.  Always down to play. Just PM me.  I’ve taken many Golfwrx folks out to a couple clubs in central florida before.  Just dont’ be an arse or a Ken a rob. There’s a lot of cool members in florida but post pandemic, everyone just decided to shut it down and ignore why we play golf in the first place.  Strange times.

Pine Barron's was one of my favorites and the best course in the Tampa area for a long time. Never took off the way they wanted. I remember playing 36 with my father for something like $100 when it first opened. I guess in the last 10 years the conditions went downhill. Doak turned down the renovation not sure who ended up doing it. Best course down there may end up being Dunedin if the renovation actually happens.

I completely get what you mean about Cabot. It’s really tough to have a great course and fair rates these days. Also agree on the Florida take. I’m really lucky to have a lot of great family and friends all over naples to play, but there’s definitely a sense of isolation in the private clubs because so many people are looking for “an in” to play. Total opposite feeling of Chicagoland golf where I come from and everyone knows everyone.

I don't follow you on a "sense of isolation" unless you are talking about clubs were the majority or all of the members live in the gated community around the club...Grey Oaks sort of thing. I've played a lot of privates in Naples and never had a bad experience. Moving down there officially on Jan 1 for about 5 months. Looking forward to the warm weather, fresh fish, and Sunday fundays in Goodland. I'm in Fiddlers.

I shouldn’t have used the term isolation. What I really was getting at is how packed all of the golf communities are, even out of season these days. I played grey oaks on reciprocal about 6 times this past summer, 4 of those rounds near 4.5 hours. You would think with 3 Private courses, that members of the club could get out and play a reasonably quick round. I think you can really feel the massive demand and low supply now more than ever.

No doubt about it. I just joined a club as a social so I would have a place to practice. I thought one of Grey Oaks courses was closed for 17 million renovation.

Hey Guys! I am not sure if anyone can help but I have a couple of questions. First, I’ve never been to Naples/Ft.Myers. I am the GM at a club in KY and I am going to go down for January & February to look at some real estate. While I’m down, I would like to join somewhere for a couple of months rather than pay by the round. I am planning on playing quite a bit if possible and practicing some. I don’t need super high end…really just looking for a good layout in decent condition with GOOD greens. I can deal with most things but really would like some good greens. Also, if there is a group that plays at certain times several days a week and gambles a little would be awesome. I don’t know if this is a pipe dream but just figured I’d ask since it sounds like you all know your stuff. I am a scratch golfer but getting older (53) so losing a little punch and really enjoy competing whether it’s a tournament or a $20 Nassau or whatever.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help!

summer or off season memberships might be a thing. Temporary membership in Nov - March is definitely not an option anymore

whats your idea of a good club or GOOD greens?

Everything is absurd pricing wise still for full membership…not the best time to sign up

Not possible. Can get a summer membership at a few places but what you’re looking for doesn’t exist in Naples. Best of luck to you.

I can’t take anything you say seriously. Especially after you kept declaring Innisbrook is a private club and the overhype of hideout.  Eh at best.

Heading down to poinciana this winter and adding the national to the list.  Not much is talked/discussed about national.  Big fan of fry/straka. Their renovation of a local club in tampa bay has been world class.

What are your thoughts on Poinciana?

how does it compare overall in exclusivity, waiting list, condition, price, daily play membership, etc. with other Naples privates mentioned?

Royal Poinciana is a really really social club, extends far beyond golf.  I have not played golf there, but have never heard of it mentioned in the conversation for best golf clubs in Naples.  Talking purely the golf courses, are they anything to write home about?  Seems consensus is always Calusa, Naples National, Hideout, Hole in the Wall, etc.

Does anyone know of any games at courses from Naples to Sarasota? I’m actually staying in Punta Gorda and the place I’m staying includes golf membership but other than a once a week MGA there really isn’t any groups that get together to play. I didn’t know if any other club had a group that got together and played? Also didn’t know if there were any fun groups of guys in the area that wanted to get together and play/gamble sometime? Again, nothing big but I’m tired of playing and getting paired with Archie & Edith Bunker from Canada that is just beginning to play golf (although they’ve been really nice).
