PXG Gen4 0311 X Driving Iron

Got mine just before Christmas and then had to leave for a few days. Just got back and measured for length, weight, and swingweight. It's funny cuz I didn't special order anything, just stock. It blends PERFECTLY with my i200s. It's 1/2" longer than my 3i, a few grams lighter, and same swingweight. So it's basically perfectly blended with my set. Now to take it for a spin in the wild...

Have you had the chance to play the club yet? I have been on the fence on picking one of these up as well with the tensei 100

Not yet. I'm really excited too, though. Was out of town for Christmas and have a lot to do before leaving on a week-long vacation and its been cold here in CO. Probably won't get to hit it until mid-January if we get some warm weather I can hit off some range mats outdoors.  I will definitely give an update here in this thread!

I’m such a golf hoe.  I said I wouldn’t get this until they came in other lofts as as I’ve got a 2i and 3i I like and use but couldn’t resist.  Picked one up off the BST yesterday with a Ventus Blue 9X.  It’s basically the same specs as my current U505 3i as he had it bent flat and 1* weaker.  Now there is only 1 degree difference between the Gen4 driving iron and the U505.  One will go up on the BST once it arrives and I can test it out.

This is my dream review. Low launch, low spin, tight dispersion, super hot face that people mistake for a driver. I am hoping this is essentially a 3w replacement… Long, low, straight bounding bullets all day.

Forgot to add thin top line, average size club head, minimal offset. This thing could be legit.

I’ll be taking this out Friday if the weather holds up and I’ll be able to give some feedback.  I’ve got the Gen2 4I and love it.  Also have a U505 3i and the one I got was bent so they are basically the same loft but the U505 has a Tour AD DI and the Gen4 has a Ventus 9X tipped a bit.

BTW- does look ridiculously good at address and is thinner than my Gen2.

Just got fit for this today, Tensei white 90x. Have to say it is the best driving iron I have ever hit. Currently gaming a 2019 P790 udi with a ProjectX 100g 6.5 and the feel is miles better imo. I found I could flight the gen 4 higher and lower more easily and was easier to hit off the deck. Very much looking forward to getting it and hitting it out on the course. Would highly recommend if you are thinking about it.

Got to hit it today on an indoor simulator. It was glorious. Some hits were certainly hotter than others, but the dispersion was straight and tight. Nice low ball flight. Not sure what "low" or "high" spin numbers would be for a driving iron would be. No big hooks or slices, pushes or pulls. Every one would have been in fairway somewhere between 235 and 268. Best one was the last one. These are the kinds of numbers I'm looking for from this club (just look at "Current" Shot Stats. Averages were from a practice session that included all clubs, including little half wedges to warm up).

Was just fit into this with a KBS Prototype hybrid shaft. This thing is a monster. I play a slight fade and am carrying it 240-245 off the deck without breaking a sweat. Bent it 2 degrees weak to 20 degrees to give me ideal launch, spin and carry, plus gapping. PXG has a real winner in their hands here.

I finally got to play it today after cutting the shaft down to its normal length and replacing the grip.  The person I got it from had it 1.5 inches longer than standard and had a larger grip than I’m used to.  Cut it down and my normal grip and this thing is a beast.  Only hit it off the tee and not the deck yet.  It was a nice low riser that was like a stinger.  I don’t ever play a stinger as I have a normal high ball flight but I’m able to keep this low if needed.  I can tilt my shoulders a bit and still hit it high when needed.  Cannot wait for the summer when the conditions dry out and I can hit those long runners.

Anyone know which PXG iron set this is closest to? I’m in love with the thin top line, minimal offset, blade shape and size, feel, and performance. Never hit a PXG club before this, but I’m definitely excited.

I would say the Gen4 T’s would be the closest.  I haven’t seen the ST yet but I’m playing the T’s and this is very close.

Agree! The ST don't have XCOR.

Hit this finally on the course today.  Not off the deck but off the tee.  Hit it about 240.  No roll as I hit a nice high baby fade with absolutely no roll.  Fairways were wet and it was almost in its pitch mark.  Felt great.

I've got the 0311 gen3 xp's and I've only got to play them 3 times since fitting (also in Colorado, so the weather isn't perfect) and I'm in love with the 3i. Seems like on the range it clears 200yd in the air. I'd love to know how the X compares to PXGs 3i. It's a degrees weaker but it seems designed to go further. 

 

Honestly the only regret in my bag is my 4i. The i's are all on steelfiber shafts, and while they feel stiff for me, ends up that's what I swing well. The 4i though is only a little different than the 3i, and the 3i is so fast and flat that's it's my primary range gun in warmup now

I haven’t seen this in hand yet, but I would be very surprised if it isn’t closer to the size of the P. I don’t recall ever seeing a driving iron that was as thin as a tour/better player model.

Do you use PXGs as well? Which ones? Lefty here as well.

Yep. Currently in the Gen 4 0311 P although I’ve only been able to hit them a couple times at the range because of winter. I previously played the Gen 3 P’s and loved them. Before moving to PXG I played P790 Gen 2 and 919F. The 0311 P’s seem to be the perfect blend of the P790 and 919F…great distance and forgiveness with amazing feel.

I think mine has already been kicked out by a Mavrik 4 iron, sorry to say. Haven’t put it up for sale yet, but it’s close….

I've had mine for a while now and it's about to take my 3i spot, it's the best driving iron I've had. Also has very little offset and I can appriciate a driving iron with little offset

I was surprised at all their shaft offerings.  No Steelfiber 110 or 125 or MMT 125, etc.  I have a Mitsubishi - High bend Tensei AV White AM2 90g 'S' in my 17' 2 iron, and MMT 125 "S" in 5-LW.

The steelfiber is an option at fittings
