Hybrid Shafts to Match PX LZ 5.5 in Irons?

Hey all, I had a fitting done last year and by far the most significant revelation was my iron shafts were all wrong. I had KBS Tour 90s, don’t have the fastest SS (95mph with driver), but ended up fitting into Project X LZ 5.5 shafts. Distance and dispersion were greatly improved. I think this is due to an aggressive transition and fast tempo.

as of now I have two G425 hybrids with R flex Alta shafts and I feel totally lost with them. I have a lot of trouble hitting them consistently and I’m wondering if changing shafts to something heavier may help.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I play LZ 5.5 shafts in my irons as well, and really like their feel. My understanding is that they are pretty stiff in tip and handle, but a little softer in middle. That profile is similar to the atmos blue hybrid shaft, and slightly harsher Smoke Black maybe RDX now?. I also have had good results with a Ventus blue 8S but not sure it’s giving me what I want in launch. I am currently playing a DI 85 in hopes of getting a a much height as I can with my hybrid but still stable. It depends on how you want the club to perform, but those shafts should feel similar.

Thanks! That's a very handy starting point. Maybe I'll go for a fitting....I have 3 hybrids and don't play them all all the time, but I'd hate to be sinking hundreds into shafts without knowing.

Your issue may be that the Alta shaft is counrtbalanced. Some players love counterbalance, others are “lost”. Fortunately, quality hybrid shafts cost nothing like what many driver shafts have escalated to.

With my recent fitting I was fit into the projectX LZ and they said the RDX smoke Black was the match

Same situation - have LZ 6.0 in my irons and I have found the Graphite Design HY hybrid shafts to be complimentary in feel and control. Might be worth trying…

I went ahead with ordering the Tensi CK Pro Blue 80g Stiff. It is supposed to be here anyday now. Soon as it warms up here I will be able to give it a go

I'm piping in late on this thread but I do agree with the comments that the Project X LZ shaft is a very good shaft. I had a chance to compare it to the Project X IO shaft in the same flex and it didn't work for me. But there is a difference in shaft weight between the two - so that may have been part of the reason the LZ (heavier) felt better then the IO (lighter) shaft.
