New Garmin Fenix 7 - Touch Screen!

Good feedback and great to hear you like the Epix 2 Sapphire. Availability is getting better since the launch, white is what's mostly available, black is harder to get (Sapphire edition). I found a good deal on the Epix 2 Sapphire in white, 10% discount and free overnight shipping. Received about 2 weeks ago and I also ordered that special Jacquard Weave band to match, spending $1200 total for everything. Wore it for a day and decided it wasn't for me.

Screen and features are amazing. 45mm is a good size but it didn't feel like a $1200 watch and the white just didn't do it for me.

I've moved from the Apple Watch. I've been an Apple user since whatever iPhone V1 but the shape of watch, stigma of Apple nerds and snobs just isn't for me.

I've decided on the latest generation, Tag e4 connected. It's pricey so I'm saving my pennies and hoping to pick-up within a month.

Yes I could imagine the white wouldn't be that great.  I'm lucky and got mine release day (black sapphire EPIX 2) with a 20% discount so it was closer to $800 for me.

I'm sure that Tag is a sweet watch as well!  Watches are tricky, as everyone has a different view.  Some want Rolex's, some want Swatches

I spoke to a customer service at Garmin today and I’m left more confused than I started. Hoping one of you can help clarify something for me.

Trying to decide between the fénix 7 and the approach s62 (and after reading this thread, maybe the epix). I’m more interested in the fénix due to the extra features it has over the approach, but that assumes that the basic golf functions are the same.

I understand the approach and the MARQ are the only models with the virtual caddy and wind direction, both of which do not interest me as I don’t foresee myself using either.  What I was asking the rep about was whether the fénix was able to track my average yardages per club. He said the only way this would work was if I also purchased the CT10 sensors (an additional $300 for 14). He also said that was the case for BOTH the fénix and the approach. Now, I’m fairly certain that is not the case for the approach because I have seen some reviews where it didn’t look like the reviewer had the sensors. I can’t imagine that the app/watch would need the sensors to do this considering all they do is automatically inform the software which club you are swinging, allowing you to skip the step of manually selecting them on the prompt screen.

So, my question was “Does the fénix track my average yardages per club over multiple rounds like the approach?” But now it’s more like “do either of these watches do this without the CT10 sensors?”

Hope I didn’t confuse anyone, I suspect I confused the rep earlier.

A quick search leads me to believe the feature you’re looking for is thru the sensors, whether it’s S62, Fenix or Epix

I think you’re right. That’s really disappointing. Not sure why they would be required for that feature for any other reason than to force you to buy them, essentially paywalling something the software is already capable of doing.

If you manually select the club in the watch, you’d think it would be capable of tracking your stats round to round same as if the sensor “selected” it automatically.

That would have been a huge selling point for me, but I’m not sure I want to go out and drop an extra $300 on top of my potentially $1000 watch purchase. That’s a new set of irons.

You don't need the sensors for this.  The only thing the sensors do is automatically record where you hit your shot and which club you hit it with, so you can skip the manual entry after every shot.  The sensors do not do any of the calculations that determine how far the distance between your last shot and the previous one, that's done by the software in your watch, and displayed most easily either on the Garmin Golf app on your phone or the Garmin Connect software on your PC.

The sensors allow you to skip manual shot entry.  That's it.  Which is also why they are hard to justify cost-wise, even though I keep telling myself it was worth it..

So you’ve got experience with this? What you’re describing is how I assumed it worked, but when I asked for clarification from Garmin they said it required the sensors.

I do kind of feel like the rep I spoke with was confused.

I ended up ordering an older fénix 6, because of my discussion with him, hopefully the apps are the same. I’ll reply back when I test it and hopefully put the question to bed for anyone else in the future.

Thanks for the reply.
