7 wood converts - tell me your experience

118ish SS here. Play callaway AI TD 7 wood with hzrdus black 80gr shaft. Straight balls or off tee is a 246-250 carry club. 
 

off deck I prefer to hit a fade, more confidence for me. That’s a 237-240 carry, and can always increase the amount of fade to tone it back down to 230 if I need something to land really soft and I don’t feel like the 4 iron will do it.

 

the misses are definitely spinny and short for me, but I prefer to play a fade with all woods and if I overcook the fade I can accept that. Can’t control a draw nearly as consistently with woods….and just the opposite with irons 🤷‍♂️

I’m really thinking about a 4w/7w combo as I update my bag this year. I still love my TEE 4w even if it’s super old, it’s one of the most reliable clubs in my bag. Can’t consistently hit my 3H and maybe this would be a good fix. Only issue so far has been finding a 7w with a decent shaft weight, without custom ordering something.

 

I play 65g in driver, 75g in 4w, and 105g irons. Logic would dictate something like an 85g shaft in the 7w but they seem to be fairly rare off the shelf or pre-owned, at least in stiff flex.

Converted over to the 7 wood a few months back. Was a great change for me as I hit it much more consistently than my long irons. The only problem I’ve run into is if it is very windy it can get caught in the wind fairly easily. Other than that, it’s been a great change for me.

You can find it Callaway UWs with 80 and 90g shafts. My mmt in mine was no upcharge.

Don't use it as much as would like to but my G430 max 7wd has been a game changer ...... 175-205 wind dependent and much easier to elevate....contemplating a 9wd !!! AGING Sucks

not coming from a hybrid bc I hate them, so I used a callaway driving iron with mixed results. Tried a ping g430 max 7 wood and won't ever go back. I think it was the Ping guys who said the pros play theirs at 41 inches, which is slightly shorter than standard. I assume I would spin it off the planet, but that hasn't been the case. It's filthy off the turf and off the tee. For reference, recent trackman SS range was 118-123 range.

7w has been an interesting experiment.

 

I got same head as my 4w (love my 4w).  It's an MOI/higher launch type head.  It goes too high.  Tried tipping, lead weight up front....just can't get it down.  Its easy to hit, just doesn't hit the gap I need.  I could try a different shaft but feels like throwing $$$ for miniscule changes.  That head is what it is.  

 

Tested an Apex UW 21* and that's probably the answer.  Lower flight w/the stock MMT and hits the gap I need.
