April 2023 Scotland/Ireland/UK Golf and Soccer (?) Trip

My younger brother is turning 40 next year and we're looking at booking an overseas golf trip. He likes golf and history, but loves European soccer so I'd like to work in a match somewhere. It doesn't have to be Premier League level (doubt I could get tickets anyway) but I have no idea whether there are any golf "meccas" in relatively close proximity to any clubs (e.g. St. Andrews area with a day trip to Glasgow for a Celtic match). Has anyone done something like this or able to give me some insight? Thanks in advance.

Dundee is 25 minutes from St. Andrews and you could go watch them. Dundee United play in the Scottish Premiership. Or, you could also watch Hearts or Hibernian in Edinburgh or drive to Glasgow and watch Celtic or Rangers. They are both about a 1.5 hour drive from St. Andrews.

Great, thanks for this info. Didn't realize there were three clubs pretty close.

scottish football is a bit of a joke tbh. Its not hard to get tickets for the premier league for most games, probably the best league in europe right now.

 

If its essential to go to Scotland for golf, Id head for east lothian and take the train to Newcastle for a game, its not far and they will have a good team next year..

Golf and Football I would suggest Liverpool. Royal Liverpool, Royal Birkdale and Royal Lytham & St Anne's are all within an hour and a half of each other in that area. All are Open Championship venues and within various top 100 world lists. 

In addition there are about 6 or 7 courses that are within the GB&I/English top 100 in that area. 

Liverpool itself is a fantastic city and you will definitely be able to get some premiership football in with Liverpool, Everton (maybe), Manchester City and Manchester United all close by. 

 

Alternatively April would be a great time to visit the Surrey area which is effectively English golf Mecca. 

Sunningdale Old & New, the Berkshire Red & Blue, Walton Heath Old & New, St George's Hill, The Addington, Woking, Worplesdon, New Zealand are all incredible courses amongst even more. The advantage of these is that they are sand based so play very well in April. 

You'll be in or near to London so there are a variety of premiership teams you can watch. 

I recommend England as it would be ideal for the football but don't think that the golf will be any less spectacular, these are legendary tracks.
