PXG Gen 5 XF Hybrid

Just put one in the bag with the MMT shaft, that thing is a rocket.

Two rounds with it and I find it to be very forgiving and very easy to hit off of any lie or the rough.

I have much more confidence with over a 4 iron and even my Gen 4 model.

It looks awesome as well.

Love my 19 degree PXG proto hybrid. Finally a hybrid I don't balloon. Their gen5 stuff looks so good

So I was considering trying out their hybrids and I was interesting in hearing the differences between Gen 4 and Gen 5.  I never heard anything bad about Gen 4 but no glowing reviews either.

I hit the Gen 5 22 degree during my fitting last week.  It was so solid.  On the LM I was getting similar numbers to my TSi1

I’ll probably include it in my Lucky 7 order.

I have a 3H 19* instead of a 5W and it's long and very straight when I put a god swing on it.  It has been awhile since I hit a hybrid as I'm playing the Riptide 80 shaft as I'm still adjusting to it, usually go for a lighter shaft but it is very solid feel. I feel like out of all the hybrids I've played and thought about buying this is the one for me. A Hybrid is not a club that I get to hit very much so for now it's doing what is expecting, no hooking or does it ballon on me. Only 5-6 yards behind my 3W so I'm pleased with the distance I'm getting. Recently I have hit some pretty amazing shots with mine

My Gen 4 hybrid is solid but always appeared smallish to me and it is not the XF model .

The Gen 5 XF appears longer and for me that inspires more confidence.

For me, its best attribute is that it doesn't go left....  I can't hit a fade to save my life, but I can hook almost everything.

To be able to hit it off a tee or the deck and not hook it is a great feeling.

  • 2 months later...

Hit both of these yesterday 19* opened to Big- with ventus blue hybrid shaft. Ball flight on XF was slightly higher, but not too high. Both are penetrating flights with a little more carry going to XF. I actually hit my longest balls with the XF. Size-wise the XF is slightly bigger but not too bad to my eye. Both models feel great and very close to their Gen2 models which I like, Gen4 is good but a tad firmer. Depending on how you're looking to use the hybrid, either model is a good choice IMO.

  • 1 year later...

Picked up the Gen5 XF 4&5 hybrids (used, cheap) and gave them a try for 5 rounds. After fussing with the weights,  and even buying some additional after market weights,  I can honestly say I hate these. Nothing works,  they just suck and feel completely unbalanced no matter what I do.  Worst hybrids I've ever had. The head feels like it has a mind of its own and refuses to ever be square at impact. These clubs are a disaster for me, they've ruined my scorecard for the last time.

Good to know...Sounds like a shaft issue...They work fine for me...

Don't overlook the Gen 2 Hybrids, they are really solid. Played them for a couple of years. Then decided to go to the 4i, 5wd and 7wd combo.

Still have the G2 Hybrids because I'm sure at some point they will be back in the bag.

Gen2 hybrids were/are legit.  I hit them better than later generations (maybe that’s just me).  I probably played my last round for the season today, and the Gen2 hybrids were confidently and consistently solid (whereas the rest of my bag was wobbly!).

Oops didn’t see this post before posting.  Yup, Gen2 hybrids are the real deal.

I don't think so since I have the same Tensei Red shaft in my irons and it works great. These PXG's have the same Tensei Red hybrid shaft which is why I bought them.

This doesn't mean it will work for the hybrids for various reasons like weighting, flex, your swing etc. Lots goes into squaring the club face from a club/equipment and swing perspective. Sounds like you've tried to figure it out unsuccessfully, if there's a PXG store or fitter near you, I'd go have them help you dial it in. PXG hybrids are some of the best on market, getting them correctly dialed in is worth the effort IMO.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
