Phantom X 5.5 vs 9.5 - Which one?

Debating between the two. Can the 5.5 scoop up a ball on the green (like a blade)? 

 

Which one is more popular?

I had this decision as well. I went with the 5.5 as it’s the shape I’ve wanted for awhile and used to. Got it the other day. Haven’t tried on the course but it’s tough to school the ball on carpet with the 5.5 as the wings are a bit thick to get under the ball to scoop up.

You can scoop on course with the 5.5.  Try them both as they are very different

I came here to post a similar question. I originally wanted to get the 5.5 but it was out of stock in store. I tested the 7.5 and 9.5 and now I’m stuck deciding which one to get as well. It’s going to be my first Scotty so I wanna make sure I get it right!

 

I guess the answer is going to be whatever suits our eyes, but I’m curious to get everyone’s thoughts on the 5.5, 9.5 and 7.5 as well.

I've tried all 3x

 

5.5 - IMO, best looking. Great size. Least “forgiving” of the 3. 

 

7.5 - it shows the toe hang to the same as the 5.5 but “felt” less pronounced. Also a very good looking shape. Rolled this the best 

 

9.5 - it looks a lot bigger because of the black middle section. Also the alignment line is only on the middle black piece. This was a non starter for me

 

I made more putts with the 7.5 but naturally I ended up getting 5.5 off of BST. I love the way the 2022 models look

I'm leaning towards the 9.5 

 

I like the "chunk" or square look vs the fangs. 

 

I really liked the two ball ten with the line, which is why I'm also leaning toward the 9.5. The longer alignment line just makes it easier to line up putts, for me. 

 

Not sure which neck option though. I kind of like the look of a single bend.

If you are going 9.5 I’d spring for the Triple Black. Yeah it costs a lot more but the topline bombs and blackout looks are so good. Best limited putter they’ve done in so long.

If you prefer the single bend those are going to be the whole number version of each putter (5, 7, 9 etc) and will be face balanced. The .5 versions (5.5, 7.5, 9.5 etc) have a jet neck and slight toe hang.

 

Just something to keep in mind before you purchase.

What's easier to scoop off a green? The 5 or 7?

 

Scooping is the thing I like to do the most on practice greens. Missing out on that would be a bummer.

Currently gaming a 9.5.  Big fan.  Swapped from an older Newport 2.5; I'm just not good enough for a blade.

Scooping is the thing I like to do the most on practice greens. Missing out on that would be a bummer. 

I would assume the 7 is easier to scoop. I’m not a scooper coming from a spider tour so I didn’t even consider it when I tested them at the store.

I am coming from a Spider I regret selling lol. I went with the 9.5 as it looks close to the Spider shape etc.

Has anyone remove the paintfill of the topline on a 9.5? Would look so much better without the line imo.

I went with GT Rollback but preferred the 5.5 . So I went ahead and ordered the 5.5 also. DA move buying the GT

I did this same thing. Also my recent spider chipped on the grooves which shouldn’t happen. TM replaced it with a notchback that I preferred the look of. Took it still in plastic to pga superstore and exchanged it for a phantom 11 that I am trying out. Can’t decide if it’s for me though. 
 

i love my 5.5 all said and done. I hit it extremely well and it fits my grip and swing. I have a slight arc in my swing. 
 

i also have a EVNROLL ER5v that I absolutely love with a short plumbers neck
