Has anyone reshafted a double bend putter with single bend shaft???

Recommended Posts

After the Sub70 04 mallet experiment I’m going to reshaft one of my Evnrolls with a single bend shaft. I found the face progression of the single bend shaft really helped my optics and alignment. Thinking back, I putted really well with a Ping Craz-e in the past and realized it also didn’t have any offset. Has anybody else done this?

Not sure about the putter you're thinking of but if the shaft mounts directly into the head there might be a difference in the angle of the hole. Most double bend shafts are 90* straight down into the head while the single bend shaft (I'm thinking of the ER5 I used to have) go in at an angle to provide some off-set. YMMV.

edit: Okay I read your post again. It looks like you want achieve a no offset putter by removing the double bend and replacing with a single. I think that'd work and would be interested to see your results. 👍

I’ve done this before on a mizuno m craft 3 looking to achieve exactly what you are. It feels great however the toe hang went negative. Not sure the proper terms to use but it was a face balanced putter before and after the single bend was installed the toe was pointing to the ceiling about 15 degrees rather than hanging towards the floor or face balanced. I’m guessing removing the offset did this

Would also be interested to see how toe-hang is affected by the shaft change.

Thanks, if that is the case it may work out perfect. My ER8 that I’m going to experiment on currently has about 20ish degrees of toe hang. If I could get no offset AND closer to face balanced it could be perfect! I’ll update when the shaft arrives and I install it.

So it went from being face balanced to having more toe hang (face pointing open or to the right when balanced on your finger)? Or did it go from face balanced to toe up (face pointing closed or to the left when balanced on your finger)?

It went negative. Face closed when balanced or toe pointing more to ceiling than floor

I’ve done this to several putters.  It works fine but you may need to bend the stub where the shaft attaches to the head to get the right look you want.  The toe hang on putter with the new single bend shaft will depend on where the bend is located.  The higher the bend is the less toe hang and closer to face balanced.  If the bend is too high, it would go toe up..  If the bend is really low to the putter head it will create more toe hang.  You can tape a ruler to the shaft and you can see where it would intersect with the putter head if it was straight.  The closer it would be to the middle of the head the closer to face balanced it will be.

As others have stated, I ended up with "negative" toe hang after installing a single bend shaft on a double bend putter.

I would also recommend getting the putter on a spec gauge to measure loft and lie whenever reshafting a single or double bend putter.

Installed loft and lie are very dependent on exactly how the shaft is oriented in the head. Some shafts are designed for hosel nubs that are at 90 degrees with respect to the top line and others are not.

What happens to the lie angle? If the putter with a double bend shaft is 70 degrees, will it also be 70 degrees with the single bend?
