A-Grind BZ-D Driver

Has anyone tried this driver out yet or have any thoughts on A-Grind metalwoods? At first glance, 445 cc decent looking, all titanium, multiple weight ports to dial in overall head weight and spin but with somewhat aggressive locations to reduce spin…could be nice

OUTSTANDING Products. 

 

Flys well beneath the radar.

 

Hard to get in the US. 

 

I had the 350 Classic. Helluva Driver. I shouldn't have sold it. Needed the cash at the time. It made its way around GolfWRX. I eventually lost track of it 3 or 4 guys down the road. 

 

Won't be disappointed. High quality!

I spent some serious minutes looking at their Heads last night. 

 

To myself I said, "Self, why don't you toy around with an A-Grind again for fun?"

 

My conclusion is the contrast between face and crown. There isn't any. Or I should say, it is extremely difficult to distinguish between the two. To my eyes at least. And so, when I look down at address I see a rolled crown into the face. And that is something I can't tolerate. I gotta be able to easily distinguish the two. 

 

I like the head so much, I would consider it, along with a Continental Golf Crown Refinish. Maybe a very light grey crown? Paired with and rolled into the darker stock face of A-Grind. Maybe some time down the road....

i feel like I’d have to see this one in person. From the pictures they look somewhat close but from the last picture I think in person there may be enough a difference that it’s no issue.

 

given that I’m greedy, don’t play a lot, and nothing gives me more joy than slamming a long drive (or just pelting some on the range), my only concern would be if the tech can hold up to the US big boys, as I wouldn’t want to leave distance on the table.

When I had the Classic 350, I had the "Blue" Finish opposed to what you see now in Black. Wasn't a bright blue, wasn't a super dark blue, it was just a middle of the road flat navy(ish). 

 

I see what you see, I see the current pictures a bit closed. But, based on the Classic 350 I had, it is not closed at all. 

 

I think the Classic 350 came out in 2014. When I had it, the Drivers I compared it to were original Epics. The Japan Epic Star, and the Japan Epic Forged. The Classic 350 was 1/2" shorter than the Epic Star and Forged. The Classic 350 kept up with both Epics. The advantage of the Epics is all in its adjustability over the Classic 350. So ultimately minimizing mishits. The Epics, on paper and by measurement are probably more forgiving than the Classic 350. BUT the Classic 350 playing at 350ccs is pretty damn forgiving without the tech. The newer model A-Grinds, come with adjustable technology, most of them at least, so you can move weights around to dial it in for YOU. 

 

A-Grind is not to be slept on. I just wish it was more accessible in the US.

Quick update. I found an OnOff Labospec 358 for sale at a stupid low price and made an even lower offer. If I get it I will test that in a Ventus blue TR against my current PXG Gen 5 to see how far things have advanced in 7 years.


If it’s good, that may mean I have to do more JDM club ho-ing and buy the A-grind BZ-D. If it’s not good, I guess i’ll just have to buy the A-grind to see if other JDM drivers perform better.
