Changing ball color

I like playing yellow balls because they are easier to see and find.  However, there is a city tournament coming up and one of the holes is right next to the range. If you hit near the range, there are many, many yellow balls in that area.
Can I use a white bell for that hole only as long as it is the same type/brand? Only difference is color.

Based on your question it sounds like the Model Local Rule G-4 (One ball rule) is in use in the event.

If so, no you cannot switch between different colours of balls as they're separate entries on the conforming balls list.

But if you're using yellow Chrome Softs, for example, you can switch to a yellow Truvis for that hole.

But if the one ball rule (or MLR G-3) isn't used, feel free to use any ball that conforms with the equipment rules.

First I was "huh?", but after going through the list you are correct. Truvis have not been added as separate entries on the list. They are not mentioned at all...

OTOH, I find it odd to have one ball rule in effect, but I guess so.

The Truvis and Pix patterns treated the same as any printed company logos or other personalisations on the ball.

I've come across a club in Finland that uses the one ball rule in their club championships. Some committees just want to make their events seem more prestigious than they really are, or maybe they're just not fully aware of what they're doing.

It's primarily to prevent people from using different types of balls throughout the round (not so much to prevent changing colors of balls).

If it wasn't in effect, you could use a "distance" ball on par 5s, a "high spin" ball on par 3s, a "low flight" ball for a hole where the wind picks up, and etc...

What? A ridiculous rule in golf?  I can't believe such a thing.

I would not say ridiculous, but unnecessary for most of the competitions.

I’m going to guess the one ball MLR isn’t in play at your tourney. If it is, work to have it taken out. It’s a ridiculous rule.

I wonder why it would be ridiculous to play with the same ball all the time, the one you use anyway. In club competitions there are players whose score is not affected by the type of ball they use but more advanced players are quite particular about the ball. I agree the Rule is unnecessary from most of the aspects but following the principle is not ridiculous as all elite amateurs use the same ball all the time as do professionals. Even I always use the same brand and model in all competitions and I am not an elite player.

Nor am I.

But after I lose the first 2 V1’s in a sleeve, I’m switching to Kirklands, or junk balls the rest of the round.

Also, using the same ball for a provisional ball is just asking for confusion. If my first ball is a V1, and my provisional is a Callaway, there is no confusion. Taken further, since we are talking about stroke play competition, I have hit a 4th provisional on a hole. It’s much easier to just grab different balls and keep track of which kind the order is, than to keep breaking out the marker and writing, “Ball 2”, “Ball 3” etc on them. It’s easier, and faster, to remember V1, yellow chrome soft, Kirkland, top flite, orange ball for the order.

With the one ball rule, you can’t even switch colors of the same ball for your provisionals.

Some days, you just don’t have it, and you don’t want to just WD. But you also don’t want to keep pumping V1s into every pond and OB backyard which the one ball rule requires you to do.

The days of playing a distance ball on one hole and a balata on the next are long gone. The ball technology is WAY better and getting consistent results with one ball is the best way to score. But to mandate it is ridiculous.

With one ball rule players are good enough not to hit 4 provisionals 😆
