Pebble Next Week

Ok, a buddy and I are trying to plan a trip to pebble next weekend and was looking to you guys for some help.   From our calls we found out that they require a 3 night stay at the lodge to make a tee time.  This is new to me.   We were looking to play either Pebble or Spyglass and the only available time is at Spyglass at 2:40, which is a not guaranteed to finish time.

 

They also mentioned we could call 24 hr's in advance to secure a time, but I would hate to make the trip and pay for lodging all for no golf.

 

Any input would be greatly appreciated.   thanks

Most likely you will not finish with a 2:40 on Spyglass, played there two weeks ago and we barely finished with a 2:10 tee time.

 

Does Spanish Bay have any tee times available? They allow you to upgrade if from Spanish Bay to Pebble or Spyglass if tee times become available. Spyglass is usually pretty booked as you can reserve tee times without lodging 3 months in advance.

I got on as a single by calling the day prior for Pebble and have been told it's more common than not for some singles to open up the day before. Would imagine it's even more likely to get one for Spyglass given that they allow you to "upgrade" an existing Spyglass tee time for Pebble on the day-of as well, but I think the chances of getting a twosome together is close to zero. Call at 7am on the dot (check with them beforehand that's when the line opens), and just book the first available immediately -- you do not want someone else calling in at open to snag your spot away from you. 

 

You will almost certainly only finish on a guaranteed to finish slot -- they have it down to a science, and I had the last guaranteed to finish time when playing Pebble and literally had enough light to approach 18 but could barely see my ball when putting it.

 

I would not make that trip as a "golf trip" without having tee times in advance -- it's just too risky, and there's almost no chance you'll be able to play with your friend. If you do go, I highly recommend walking it with a caddy.

Go ahead and play Spy at 2:40.  The finishing holes aren’t anything special at all. IOW’s, you’re not missing anything you’ll regret later on. In fact, the entire back 9 is sleepwalk golf. You’ll kinda remember it, but mostly you won’t.

But that's still a lot of money to pay knowing that you are not going to be able to finish your round. That seems kind of foolish to me.

Especially when there are several great courses in the area with lower fees.

Thanks guys.   As of today, Pebble, Spyglass, and Spanish Bay are all book for this saturday so I went ahead and cancelled my hotel.  I'll try another weekend and book spyglass first with a possible upgrade to pebble later.  Its frustrating being willing to fork out big $$ to play out there, but unable to find times.  🙂
