What Did You Just Build?

JDM Driver:

 

Used Giga HS 797 (from Eon Sports) 10.5 degree. Shaft - Wishon S2S White S Flex. Length - 44.75". Total weight - 325g.

(Silver strips are lead tape I added to achieve target weight. I don't concern myself with SW. My focus is on club heft.)

 

JDM Iron:

 

Maruman Pro Forged 4 iron. Shaft - NS Pro 950GH S Flex. Length - 39.5" (I'm tall). Total weight - 425g.

(This replaced the blade 4 iron in my Maruman Pro forged blades. My irons, 4-9, built with 7g increments.)

First time ever shafting a club. MP223 5 iron with MMT105S & BB&F White Lightning. My plan is to soft-step 5-G, and play them 1/4" short of Mizuno standard. I've saved some TV360 charcoal gray until I got up the courage to do this. Figured I'd post a pic before I mess up the ferrules or the club head flies off!

My wife was still gaming her Ping Eye 2s from when she was 16 and 5'7" and a 190-pound HS softball catcher.  Since she grew another inch and lost 60 pounds and is now a 5'8" '/ 130 pound 49 year-old mother / grandmother, she can't really get the same swing speed she had when she was 16, so the steel-shafts and heavy Ping heads were not doing so well for her anymore.  I had just gotten my Mizuno irons this past summer and she hit another lady's set of Cobra ForgedTec irons (which happened to be what I had just replaced as my old clubs) decently at a women's evening golf outing, so I decided to hit eBay and find some shafts and build her a set.  They didn't all turn out to be the prettiest clubs, but this was my first ever full-set build from scratch with length fitting and all.  I'm sure she still needs some loft / lie adjustments (and maybe some length adjustments done too) this spring, but she can still hit some very pretty balls that sit right where she wants them to on the greens when she feels like playing golf (and isn't complaining about me or the weather or both).

Okay, so I haven't actually built the set yet, but this is what I'm keeping busy with this weekend.

More tinkering this SB Sunday before the game. This putter in the past already went from 472g to 600g after filling with sand and lead tape. Now, gotta go the other extreme...so the experiments needed to start again with an even lighter than stock shaft. Well...wa-la...bonded the graphite right over the steel.

Giant putters aren't everyone's cup of tea, but my Cure putters are monstrous, super high MOI, adjustable aircraft aluminum heads of confidence.  I wanted to replace the double bend shaft on my RX4 with a straight one to mimic my SeeMore FGP setup.  Inspired by some WRX posts I went the non-putter shaft route finding an Aldila VS Proto 100X 9 iron shaft.  That's a model I admired but never tried - low torque, blue color, renowned, cheap find - figured it would be interesting in a putter.

 

Excited how this came out, though the jury's out on the SuperStroke, but I installed with air so it's easily swappable.  This is "Lil Blue":

Tipped 1/2", shim for .370" hosel insert, playing length 33" (cut -1/2" for grip cap thickness):

Progressive wraps to get about even .605" diameter as shaft tapered too much for the grip:

Drew metallic silver Sharpie track lines Compared to original double bend:

Added a patch over the Cure headcover in memory of our pug to complete the customization 🙂

Bumping this thread because it’s a good one. Built this Collin style putter up with some help from my club pro. Took it out for 18 today. Promising start.

Among two other clubs, I put together this one today. It's a 6-Iron with a DG X7 that I wanted to test out. I also built a 3-Iron and 7-Iron for testing as well.

Kind of have a bit of a poor man's set-up right now. No room in the under construction garage (that I really need to hurry up and finish LOL).

This is a fun little build, literally.  By coincidence it's the same clubhead in the OP.  I find myself doing air swings sometimes in the house.  Figured why not build a tiny club instead, out of unused parts?  Not too dangerous around people or pets because it's a small swing radius, and better than air swinging.

 

20" length with my normal grip.  It took a ton of tape to get to the same grip size I use.  One day I'll try it at the range on my knees 😆.  This has been missing in my life lol.
