Companies That Sell Iron Heads Only

After a really difficult stretch in my life, I decided to take an indefinite break from the game. I'm looking at getting back in, but have decided to make a project of it by building my whole bag myself. To that end, aside from Maltby at Golfworks, what other companies will sell just a set of iron heads? I want to install the shafts myself because I do not like the options that tend to come standard.

New Level Golf and Haywood Golf are 2 DTC company's that will sell the heads only.

Your best bet is to look into some DTC brands like Haywood golf, New Level, Geom Golf via Twirled Clubs, maybe Sub70 but I can only see their Canada site which is awful,

Some fitters are classified by major OEMs (i.e., TM, Callaway for example) as component fitters (or dealers, forget the exact term as it's been a while since had them build my clubs) and they can buy just heads to build custom sets.

 

I used this when I had my Apex 2014 Pros custom built.

I have bought many heads from Hireko Golf and Monark Golf. For the most part the quality isn't up to par with the major companies but for my budget and the desire to get the shafts I prefer it worked out fine.

 

Eventually I gravitated to a set of 1999 Titelist DCI 962, which hold up very well and are a soft cast. The main reason I did this was because new clubs have a lot of toe weight which isnt compatible with my swing method, plus I don't like a lot of offset. I was stuck with a set of modern blades with little forgiveness. Fortunately, I stumbled upon a thread about the 962's here and many claim there are among the best cb of all time. They are certainly a beautiful iron and are forgiving enough if one's misses arent on the toe. Even then I only lose a club distance a little to the right but playable. They are also cheap on ebay and can be cleaned up easily. Good luck.

In addition to the other bigger companies, you can still buy Bang, Alpha, Acer, and Dynacraft from some components shops.

If you search for heads only on ebay you can find lots of older models, usually at a decent discount becuase the average joe doesnt want heads only. I got a set of excellent condition Mizuno MP18 MMC irons for $250 (with free worldwide shipping which was huge for me). I've had good luck posting in the Wanted to Buy section on here too. Buying a lightly used set from a few years back will be much lower cost than brand new from even a DTC company

Pay attention to the hosel bore.  IIRC the New Level heads are all .370.  That might be an issue if you already have a set of shafts that are .355.  You could shim the shafts if you wanted, but figured you should know ahead of time.
