PXG custom fitting

I have a custom fitting with PXG coming up next week at Pinehurst. I am predominantly there to get fit into the New Gen 5 driver considering it is only $299. Additionally, I will probably look at the 3-wood, likely the 0211 line, though there is no adjustability. Has anyone had a custom fitting experience with PXG lately with either one of these clubs?

I got fit for a PXG driver at the local PXG store here in Dallas in October.

I was going to buy the 0211 online when they were blowing out the 2021 model. But I figured I'd go get fit and see how I liked it. In full transparency, fitting had been a mixed bag experience for me. But for $25, I figured why not?

The process was fantastic. We got some baseline shots with my G400 Max. He asked a lot of questions about what I liked/didn't like in that driver. As well as what weight shaft I generally prefer. From there, we went through we tried a couple of heads and I liked the 0311P. Once he found a loft that worked, we went through a variety of shafts looking to find the right fit. I was surprised at how different some shafts felt than I expected. I loved the feel and got absolutely fantastic numbers from the Project X Cypher 6.0 shaft. t's a shaft I NEVER would have picked for myself. But the numbers didn't lie.

My fitter was able to build the club right there in the store. I had tee time that afternoon and was running late.  Literally the first time I hit the club was on the first tee with my buddies.  Piped it down the middle. (and got a lot of crap for them. :))

I've played it for 6 rounds so far. It's a keeper. It's long and forgiving. I love the sound, it reminds me a bit of the TSi.  At least a few times a round I've had a shot I felt like I mishit that went further than it had any business going...especially low shots.

PXG was not on my radar. But the fitting experience was so good that I ended up going back and getting a putter.  (It's just as good.). Unfortunately I couldn't find PXG irons that beat my gamers, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Had 2 separate fitting sessions trying to find something.  I loved the PXG experience, I was eager to give all of their stuff a try.

I also didn't get along with their fairway woods.   As much as I love the driver, I thought it would have been a no-brainer. I bought it without fitting, but it just wasn't as good for me.  But I was able to return it through their 'no questions asked' policy.'

Edit - I cannot say enough positive things about my fitter. He was fantastic. He made the experience low pressure and fun. I felt like he was truly invested in trying to find something that fit me perfectly.  He was excited as I was about how well the driver fit. But he was also very good about not finding an iron that fit.  I was crushing my irons on the baseline testing. He jokingly said he had his work cut out for him.  After trying a lot of options, we both agreed that my current irons are perfect for me. Some fitter would be put out about it, but he was so good about it that I almost felt bad the PXGs weren't better.

I'll absolutely go back to him when the new stuff comes out. And I referred another WRXer to him that ended up buying a driver and set of irons.

I went for a fitting when the Gen 4 stuff was out. The fitting experience was great but none of the woods wowed me so I passed. I think the irons are good. Haven’t been since Gen 5 has been out but I have a bias against their drivers, fairways are meh I think, though I have the previous generation 0211 7w in the bag now and I’ll say it’s good. PXG has been the most positive fitting experience I’ve had. Granted I’ve seen the same guy because he’s awesome.

While at it, I would make sure to hit their hybrids and irons. The irons is their bread and butter and for good reason. But their hybrids are well up there as well. They have found the best blend of forgiveness and lowish spin and it is one of very few hybrids that does not want to go left. They are hot of the face.

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
