2023 Course Conditions- Phoenix Area

Played GCU yesterday. 7:22 first tee time paired with a walking single. We were shaking hands on 18 in under 3 hrs naturally. There were a few empty times behind us but once it “warmed up” it was jam full from the looks of it. I say this sarcastically as home was getting a few inches of snow.
 

I really enjoyed it. I thought the greens were in fantastic shape for being dormant and all the traffic. There was some poa or weed growth that could make it a little bumpy here and there but I putted very well and had no complaints. I played out of two greenside bunkers one on each 9 and thought they couldn’t have been any more different in consistency but that’s getting nitpicky. I haven’t been out there since it was maryvale.

 

I much prefer the back 9 (I remember it as the front). I think 11 and 13 are great par 3’s and 16 is a fun little par 4 and 18 isn’t a bad finishing hole at all! 

 

As a non resident now it ran $120 which is standard issue I suppose but at the city card rate it’s a much better deal. Would I pay it again? Absolutely. Too much nostalgia there with highschool golf and the good old days they can take my money anytime.

Does anyone have a recent report on Talking Stick (north) and We-Ko-Pa (Saguaro) conditions? Coming to town at the end of the month.

Talking Stick North this weekend, the course is in phenomenal shape, greens are as good as I’ve ever seen them.

Coyote Lakes early yesterday morning. Despite most courses in the NW valley having 1-2 hour frost delays that morning, CL sent out everyone off on-time but had a CPO restriction until around 9am. As a result, the entire course including the greens was completely, I mean completely frosted over for most of my front nine and partially frosted for much of the back. How that doesn't do any damage, I have no idea, unless they just don't care about anything other than the cash register. Frost aside, course was in good condition for this caliber of course, the greens were probably the best part. Finished as a foursome in about 3:40.

We had a 30-minute delay at GCU when I got there (7:45) for our 8:34 tee time. Driving range was open at that point but I could see frost still/re-forming as I was warming up.

Laveen National yesterday 1030, felt like the conditions were solid, nothing over soft, greens actually firmer than usual? Fine by me, it’s usually too soft imo. Pace was great, walking and didn’t really have to wait except on 5 and 8 as per usual.

I'm playing "The National" on Saturday in the Men's League. That's literally the only way I've been able to get on the course this winter. I'm only able to play on weekends and I've been logging in at midnight on the magic day and I'm still striking out.

Legacy the past couple of weeks. No real complaints. Really soft last weekend from the rain but this weekend was still good. Greens were true and rolled great.

For those in this thread that don’t know what “Lavern National is,” - which absolutely doesn’t include me - can someone please explain which course that is?

... Yup pulled it up with the ladder, but he lost his Scotty Cameron and the remote cart was useless, range finder toast. At least he got all his clubs. Then came back the next day and somehow managed to get his Cameron when one of the employees drug the bottom.

Looks like he made it 17.5 holes before disaster struck. A little bit like Jean van de Velde at The Open in 1999. 😆
