Stellar practice sesh this morning. Many checks on grip and posture and got rid of that rotten hook. For now. Good bit of putting and short game. Back to Sun Mountain tomorrow cuz dammit, I'm seeking revenge for last week (even if it was more on me than the course).

US Open picks? Sure.

- Scottie Scheffler

- Rory McIlroy

- Viktor Hovland

- Ludvig Aberg

- Tony Finau

Alt: Hideki Matsuyama

My CRAZY picks idea just ... just didn't go well at the PGA 😂

... Nice! Pretty crazy how we fight the same tendencies our entire golf life. Pro's have coaches that catch things before the slip away but we don't have that luxury. It just takes constant attention and even then, they creep back into out game. I can't remember who, but a Pro that said he battles bringing the club too far inside has haunted him and on any given day it can creep back into his game. He said you would think once you are aware of the issue you can permanently correct it, but that just isn't the case and over correcting can always be an issue too. Whatever our personal battles are, we fight them our entire career's. The days we don't are those magical days when everything just seems so easy.

Wanted to find out if walking and carrying my bag is realistic, and I’m pretty happy with the answer. I am not militant about it but I LOVE to walk a golf course. Our front nine is a good bit more difficult to walk, and I’ve not really been exercising, so I set off today to see how the body reacted. Pretty well all things considered. I walked and carried through 10, then walked in and got a cart for the remainder. Today was not the day for hero stuff, and I am confident I can work my body up to regular walking and carrying.

Considering where I was 5 years ago, this is miraculous! 🙏🏼 The reason I stopped after 10….my bum R foot (lots of damage and nerve issues there 😕) was getting quite uncomfortable and my R arm / shoulder was getting sore from picking up and setting down the bag. I will be hitting the hot tub for SURE, soon.

Hit a lot of really good shots, did not score well, 48-45, but figured out a couple of things that I know will knock more than a couple strokes off. I do not practice any more. My practice is any time I play solo and cannot post. There are only so many swings left in these bones and I am going to use them on the golf course.

@touch was kind enough to ask for more course pics, will post up shortly.

Way to go MS. Congrats on hoofing it for 9!

I spied another vintage Ferrari today.

1980 308 GTBi

One owner  30K original miles

The owner told me that only about 1 in 4 308's were made with a fixed roof like his so his is sort of rare. More people bought the removable targa roof model.

What a stunning looking car.

#15, my favorite hole on the back nine, second only to the reachable (for the one armed man!) par 5 #7. This you drive across the ravine to a heavily contoured fairway, and if you are down the right side you will have tree trouble on the approach. Into the breeze today I thought I busted my drive.

IMG_1487.jpeg.c3b14994c4447e66165d188fe418f674.jpeg

Nope. That busted drive only went 220 into the breeze and I needed 7w to get home. Cannot miss the green right or OB she goes. Huge bunker left of the green.

IMG_1488.jpeg.e6e20efa12cba47e2c6dd016b3f27303.jpeg

…here which I found today after a smoked 7w as good as I can hit it.

IMG_1489.jpeg.6ca40bd6521b95e1f9426568d1e98fb0.jpeg

Hit a bunker shot as well as I can hit it, ended up 8’ below the cup and did not convert. On to #16, par 3 with a very severe green.

IMG_1490.jpeg.4616c5f53c9ee303dfb9f20217d42d30.jpeg

Came up just short with 7 hybrid but that is much better than above the cup here. Good lie hit a nice flip shot to 4’ and made it.

IMG_1491.jpeg.dfe30ceffc171b2e0f217958b27fe36f.jpeg

I’ve posted up #17 before with the diabolical green. Missed photos of #18 today.

Thanks! I don’t really know for sure, not so good at guessing 😁. I’d say nice and quick, not blindingly fast (that is the department of a very famous club northeast of here….) but very very healthy for this time of year. Maybe 10, no faster than that. We have our invitational in mid July and I reckon they will be very fast by then.

That grigio 308 is just lovely. If it’s an ‘80 it may be carbs still, in which case they sound awesome!

Maybe investing in a remote controlled cart would help you.  I love walking to, but my back didn’t allow for carrying so the cart is perfect.

That is a great call.

I’ve had a Clicgear push cart for years. I haven’t brought it to the club — I’ve never seen one person using one, and I hope there isn’t an arcane rule forbidding them. I’m only 2 months into membership and not looking for special treatment, but I will ask the pro (who is an awesome guy!) about this. If it’s cool for me I’m going to spring for a powered cart.

... I was gonna post the same. (great call NJBF!) After my 2nd back surgery my Dr said he didn't want me carrying or pulling/pushing a cart and definitely don't ride in a cart as it would jar my disc too much and next step was fusion. He said I should play with a caddy LOL. Back then I was a struggling actor with two young boys and I had good months and so-so months so a caddy was out of the question. I looked on line and saw an Ad that started with "It's like having your own caddy!" and I have been using a remote cart every since. I highly recommend a MGI or any with a gyroscope because it tracks straight and true and you don't have to baby sit the remote making constant small path changes.

I miss walkable courses 😕 Summerlin totally is. Walked it many times.

Paiute very much is not. #1 on Wolf and Sun are probably a 15min walk from the clubhouse. Decent distances between most all holes. That ish adds up.

I bought the Alphard V2 and love it.  As @chisag mentioned the gyroscope is a huge plus and the Alphard has it.  With the Alphard you get brackets based on your existing cart and retrofit your existing.  I know Clicgear works, just no sure what models.  Everyone I play with has a remote cart, mostly Bat Caddy, and all are impressed with how rugged and stable mine is.  The MGI is great and the only reason I didn’t go that route was it was just out of my budget at the time.

16 green is so severe it’s going to need some work. There is such a small area where the pin can be, the green needs to be redone. Not sure when it’s planned but it will need to happen. I don’t think Alister will be upset looking down from the beyond, as I’m sure it’s changed a lot over the decades.

Reading that blew my mind. I'm sure your club welcomes them. Too many retires swear by the exercise (5 miles a round) they get by walking the course. I'd say 60-70 % of players where I work use electric push carts. Most own their own and have BFCC store them. I forget what the annual charge is. Speaking of charge members bring their batteries to the club and back home daily. We don't charge the batteries. We do have a fleet of 30 house owned electric push cart that can be taken for $16 9 or $24 for a full 18. The cart boys put their push cart in storage after the members round and also using an air hose to blow debris/grass off it after the round.  They will also have it out with your bag (provided you have your golf bag also in storage) set up and ready to go on a day you are playing. I'd say of the real regular players about 8 of them while schlep the hole collapsible unit into the car coming and going every round they play.

I say that's a hassle.

I use one about twice a year.

I just wanted to add to the groups newest topic for conversation........... Electric Push Carts.

It was a quite refreshing and crisp 57* when I headed out the door at 6:15 this morning. There was strong sunshine and low humidity all day. The high temperature hit 79* in the WNC mountains on Saturday June 8th 2024. If golfers got out today they enjoyed one of the most primo weather days in some weeks.

For whatever reason, I do not know why, there are a number of clubs in the area with this ver batim rule:

”Walking is permitted during xxxxxxx hours. No push carts are allowed.”

There is no mention of this in our golf rules as far as I’ve seen but I am suspicious because I’ve seen exactly zero push carts in two months. There is absolutely no justification for a restriction like that. None, period, no matter what angle someone tries to take to convince me. However, I’m also not willing to go fight to try to change a rule right now, if there is such a rule.

You can be nearly certain it's due to discourteous clowns dragging them across the greens at some point in history.

Does your club charge for a cart?  If they don’t maybe that is the reason.  I don’t see why it wouldn’t be allowed.  I would talk to the pro, I’m sure he already knows your issues physically so I doubt you would be challenging anything.

If I was retired and played 3 or more times a week this is what I would use.

It follows you everywhere.

It's only $4,500.

I'd like to thank Miss Emily a coworker of mine for being my demonstration model this morning. 🙂

@touch I heard our place had a couple of those a couple years back, I think they were demos or something. I’m going to ask about them because that looks like the absolute perfect way to play golf this side of a human caddie.

@chisag yes….I got in a huge argument on the main board about this. My point was on the sand belt courses in Oz, there’s no way you’d ever be able to tell that five hundred push carts rolled across the green. Hell in the Adaptive Open qualifier you have seated players driving carts around on the green. They do it carefully and the greens remained absolutely perfect.

To @aenemated point, our greens are a little more delicate but I bet it would still be fine….until the one jabron tries to turn his push cart 45 degrees five feet from the cup and then we can’t have nice things.

@NJBigFish22 we do charge cart fees, and I get it, especially with the value pricing of our dues. All good, it’s not about the $ for me, I understand and I want the club to meet the operating plan without an assessment, so I’d have zero issue working something out there. Meaning I’d be 100% fine paying a fee to walk with my push cart, especially if I stored it there.

My club is very relaxed and speaking with the super, he prefers people walking with a cart either manual or electric.  He prefers them not being on the greens since we tend to have softer greens, but if you’re close or hit the green he doesn’t get in a twist.  The bigger problem he has is with the driven carts, people not obeying CPO or turning to sharp or going past the signs telling the carts to return to the path.  I was looking at another club and they wanted a walking fee and if using a push cart a $15 charge per round to use, I dismissed that immediately.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
