Fitting into things you don't think you would fit into

I keep having this perception that I should fit into something that is "high launching" with a soft tip and something lightweight. That led me down the path of gaming the Autoflex which has been great for streaks of time and terrible for others.

 

Went for a Driver fitting the other day, which was limited to shafts in the OEM fitting carts which is not optimal, but it is what it is. With my gamer, all I could hit that day was duck hooks, so I thought I just brought a terrible swing that day. Fitter said "try this". I didn't look at what it was because I didn't want to know what it was before trying it out. Well, that "try this" shaft ended up being the best fit. While I still hit a few duck hooks with it, the majority of the shots were significantly better. Some of those previously 160 yard snappers turned into more reasonable shots with less distance lost and the good shots were great. 

 

That "try this" shaft was a Kaili white 70S. First of all, would have never thought that I would fit into a 70 gram class shaft. Second of all, the "low/low", goes against my thinking around needing a soft tip shaft. It launched higher than the Autoflex for me, given the Autoflex was producing all snappers. 

 

The reason i would have never thought about a 70 gram class shaft in a driver is because my swing speed is not that high right now (especially at the moment), 95 to 100, and i'm not that aggressive in transition. What I feel when I hit the duck hook is that i got a bit quick in transition. I feel a bit more patient with the 70 gram shaft in transition but without losing swing speed.

Coincidentally, it also seems as though i like soft butts (shaft profiles) haha

Ventus Black 6x was a mythical and terrifying beast to me until a fitter had me try one out this winter and I realized it's the best feeling shaft I've ever swung.

 

Conversely, I've had multiple fitters try to get me into a HZRDUS Black, and I have realized that I am not a soft butt kind of guy.

soft butts, firm tips, shafts.......someone who did not know we were having a golf discussion could draw some other, inaccurate, conclusions quickly.

I've never fit into the "player" driver head so I don't expect to. I wasn't even going to bother hitting Stealth2+ but I was hitting the regular model and figured why not. Was even better for me than the regular model. Ordered! LOL
