Srixon ZX7 vs. ZX7 MKII Irons

I went from 785 to Zx7 Mk2 and I really can’t tell the difference. They are both phenomenal irons. I have got my handicap down to it’s lowest level (3.5 from normally around 6) on the back of my iron play.

Congrats man!!!  I did the same when I made the switch to Z785's.  I went 2018 Rogue Pro's, to p790's at around a 10 hdcp.  Then got fit for Srixon Z785's and worked down to a 5.  ZX7 took me down to where I am today.  Irons are also my strong suit.  I think the magic was controlling spin and distance.  I'll be curious where Srixon takes the line next.

I had a set of OG ZX7 4-PW, and now the MKii 4i in my bag.  The changes are subtle, bit more spin, 1-2* higher launch and forgiveness across the face with a sole that is less pronounced.  They still feel amazingly solid and look so good.  Ballspeed was very similar with OG having higher maximum, but average deviations far better in Mkii for me.

I've had both and have the MKII currently.  Only thing I notice is that the MKII spin a little bit more which leads to slightly better consistency.

I think they feel softer as well, but that could also be because I went from PX 6.5s to $-Taper 130.

Do I think they are worth the upgrade if you have the OGs?  Probably not.  Do I love them?  Absolutely.

couldn't agree more with this. I also have the $-taper 130 shafts in the mkii and its a match made in heaven. Soft feeling irons that are super playable. I think the mkii looks a little more rounded too. Just terrific irons. And the 4 utility to match has been a perfect complement.

The main problem is that the original zx7 and zx5 are so good that any new model would be similar. I guess that cant be a problem because both sets are just that good. People are finally jumping on the Srixon iron bandwagon for good reason. I continue to demo every other iron out there and it doesnt matter, the Srixon win easily. Only reason i would buy another set is to demo new shafts. Currently have Modus 105s but want to try out steelfiber 95 or the new Axiom. Anyone have those shafts in their current set, thanks

I guess I've long been a bit of a snob and rejecting any thought of trying a SRIXON.  First I was a Titleist blade/cb guy, then a Mizzy blade/cb guy, then a Miura guy with occasional forays back to Mizzyland.  Then last year a friend went ZX5 MK II and encouraged me to swing a few.  I was kind of intrigued with just a few swings.

Then I started seriously evaluating ZX5 & ZX7 irons.  With both Gen I & MK II I was actually shocked at the ease of consistently achieving tight dispersion and distance landing zones.  The MK II's won out and I'm still amazed at how relaxing  the 5/7 combo set makes iron play.

Axiom 105S in my combo MKii set. Very good shaft and stable and helps with dispersion.
