A Guide to Power Cart Use for Dummies and Newbies

It legit stresses me out when someone can't operate a cart properly, especially on a busy day at the course. The biggest for me is how people park around greens as well as the folks who appear are locked to the cart and must be driven to the ball that is literally 20 yards from their partner's ball.

LOL..I needed some backup in another golf group I am in. I made some comments a few days ago about slow play in carts. I touched on some things in this post. A guy says I'm an idiot. I told the guy evidently he was part of the problem if he didn't get it. I told him how we do it. I pull up to my players ball, we get a GPS yardage. My ball is 20 yards. away. I grab a few clubs and walk to my ball while he is playing his ball. I am ready to hit when he is done. He picks me up in the cart and away we go. He says now who really does that?

I would drop him off and take the cart to my ball but to many times he says come back I need a different club. You have to go with what works best with particular people.

Exactly what I do. Even when I know what club i want to hit, i'm bringing 2-3 and am ready to hit when playing partner is done. If I'm riding alone, I'm at my ball and ready to hit as long as its not in the way of anyone in the group behind me. They hit and within 20 seconds, I have also hit.

Kind of a spinoff, but I think most people are not thinking about the next shot...on the way to the next shot. So they roll up, assess the situation, pull a club, BS with partner, practice swing routine, etc. I try to have everything figured out except pre-shot routine by the time I get to the ball.

I am the same way. I am thinking about what I want to do with my next shot as we are riding to our balls. By the time I get to my ball I  have already thought about how the hole plays out so I only need a yardage.

I have two guys I play with that have a habit of selecting a club, going through their pre-shot routine and then they stop and go back to their bag and select another club. We play several golf courses regularly every week. I can understand if it is windy and you might need a different club but on those calm days playing the same course all the time you would think a person would remember how a hole plays and what club you use to hit that dogleg perfect from the tee or the club needed on the par 3.

You know that place where the cart is programmed NOT to go? The one you tried to drive last week and had to back the cart up 50 yards, beeping the whole way?

Here's a clue. If you try to drive there again today you will STILL not be allowed. And you'll have to back the cart up 50 yards, beeping the whole way.

It's amazing how some people simply can't learn that the programmed no-go zones are really there. Maybe this time it will let them drive 40 yards into the woods looking for that sliced tee shot.

They should be required to wear collars, like the ones for the "invisible" fence for your pet.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Can you imagine how golf might change, if somehow all the helpful hints in this thread were brought to their attention?

It amazes me the number of people that pull just OFF the cart path at tees and greens. WHY?

I do that by accident, even if told not to. When driving a car, I do not park it in the middle of the road either ...

And perhaps because I play with cart only 1-2 times a year. But I suffer from them many more times...

This is a picture that is common across all the courses in our area (not on every hole or every course, but common). I am not sure why you would park in the 'middle or the road' in this case.

OTOH, if the area around you is grass, unless everyone parks their cart there in which case it will be mud when wet, then that is why you 'park in the middle of the road'.

The most important point on cart usage boils down to “Even when you have a cart, you will still be walking.” Most players don’t get this.
