Seattle Area Golf Trip: Chambers + Others?

pb_n_joe

Recommended Posts

Planning a trip to Seattle in August, and planning to play Chambers + 2 other courses. Any recommendations for other courses in the SeaTac area worth playing to fill out the weekend?

Had my eye on Washington National and The Home Course. Played Washington National and Fircrest on my last visit to Seattle years ago, and loved both.

Public vs private - how do the best public courses in the area compare to some of the private clubs? Trying to gauge whether it's worth the effort for any of the guys in my group to tap into our networks / home clubs to get on at any of the private clubs. TIA!

If you know anyone that can get you on at Tacoma CC the contrast with that course and Chambers is amazing.  Both wonderful golf courses, and very different.

As @SheriffBooth said Tacoma Country Club and Golf is a great course with lots of memorable holes. If you can get a hook up you should 100% play there.

Tacoma CC was one of the most lush and greenest golf courses I've ever played.  And then we went out to Chambers which was like some kind of beautiful, but post-apocalyptic, vision of the future of golf courses.  Just an incredible contrast.

Yes two very different courses, TCC&G is all about the trees and Chambers has a tree. 😁

Personally I would play TCC&G before Chambers, but that is easy to when you have played both a few times. It is pretty hard to not play a Major site when you have the chance.

I love Tacoma and jump at the opportunity to play it when I can, but I reckon most towns have a Tacoma-like course.  If I was traveling any significant distance, and had the means to access Tacoma, I'd skip it and get on at Tumble Creek.  While closer to 2 hours away, it provides something different than most anywhere else, and still feels reasonable for a day trip.

Personally, I'd skip WA National. Home Course, Salish, Gold Mountain - Olympic would be the courses in the area I look at for public courses.

I'd skip Tumble Creek too, personally - left me a bit let down playing it. If you can get onto Sahalee or Aldarra (both 1a and 1b in the state depending on the list), start there. Sahalee is narrow and winds through a neighborhood, Aldarra is on the old Boeing family farm and only 1 house one the course. Tacoma CCGC is better than Tumble as well.

Agreed re: WA National. It's really gone downhill. Home Course is ok, but nothing special compared to the others listed

Thanks for all the intel! Heading up to Seattle on Thursday and have a great itinerary locked in - Tacoma CC, Gold Mountain Olympic, Chambers, Salish Cliffs. Can't wait

Great little rota! Very pleased you have included both Salish Cliffs and Gold Mountain. Our group loved both those as add ons to Chambers Bay which is the star of the show. Just make sure you tip your caddie well at CB or you will get a surly response.

Wish I could have taken you up on this earlier! We played on Thursday and had an absolute blast! Greens were some of the fastest and truest I've ever seen. Managed my way to a clean round of 71 from the tips 🙂
