Hi all,

I am from the UK and currently have an index of 15, I need a new driver but have a pretty specific list of requirements I feel you guys may be able to help with?

I am a member of one of the best links courses in the country which is not particularly long but hitting fairways is a premium. As a result of this I ditched the driver and use a 17 degree hybrid off the tee which comes out flat with little spin so is perfect for the links, I hit it so well I ditched my driver.

The issue is I am also a member of a long parkland course where there are some forced carries where into the wind I cannot quite clear with the hybrid.

On the course especially with wind off the left I struggle with a bit of a push slice, starts right and keeps going on the wind. I have tried using draw biased drivers such as the G425 SFT but they just kick the spin up too much and I lose tons of distance especially into the wind.

So my question is, is there a driver which will come out flat so that I can use it on the links but also doesn’t want to go right on me?

Many thanks.

Wow, thanks for all the great replies! Really appreciate people taking the time to respond.

After what people suggested I will have a go of the ST Max and a 430 Max.

Would people say that the Ventura Black is the shaft that would make those heads keep peak height down the most?

I’ve had the most success and feel most confident with an Adila Rogue White, how different would those two be?

Thanks again all.

Shaft will only have a small effect on trajectory. Don’t sleep on the Big Bertha driver. It’s going to be lower spinning and more draw biased than the two drivers you mentioned.

1. Fix your swing flaw

2. Or get a Ping G430 Max, set to flat, -1* loft, weight in heel.

If you miss left with this setup you need to play a different sport.

Last season I played a Rogue Max LS. When it was good it was great but too often I’d leave the face open.

Switching to the Rogue Max D this year has been almost like a cheat code for squaring the face. I’ve taken the right side out of play. Problem is I’m spinning the ball too much to get maximum distance. 2800-2900 spin isn’t horrible but I’d love to knock off a few hundred RPM’s.

What your swing speed?  A Ventus black is very stout/stiff shaft and is like swinging a telephone pole. For an anti-right miss I wouldn’t recommend that shaft. A better comparison to the rogue white would be a Ventus Blue (make sure it’s the velocore version though as there is a much cheaper non-velocore version as well). I have the Ventus blue in my rogue st max d and absolutely love it. Hope this helps.

His miss is already right. The flat and -1 setting will just push the start line further right with an open face encouraging a further right ball flight. He needs help getting his start line left AND rotating or having the closed closed at impact.

Mis-red the first post.

Then get a Ping G430 Max. Play it in the +1.5 setting. Weight in toe.

About as draw biased as a golf club gets without being too spinny.

Get a driver you are happy with then add lead tape till happier

I’m very happy with my ping 430 max. The toe weight is effective. You can move your average drive about 8 10 yards.

The other thing would be maybe taking pings new three wood out for a spin.  A hefty price but seems to be a long one in reviews I’ve seen.

Get some legit foot powder spray or strike spray and see where you're striking it. Then make adjustments based on what you see.

Fix that and you could pick a driver at random and be happy....

About as draw biased as a golf club gets without being too spinny.

How would weight in the toe make it more draw bias? Weight in the heel would be better as it helps the face close faster which in turn should help the ball draw or not miss right (as much).

Definitely support your decision to try out the ST Max and the 430 Max. I'd also emphasize to utilize the adjustability. In your case, increasing loft and making the lie more upright should help to an extent. Additionally, playing a shorter shaft or choking up can allow the club head to close a bit more.

As far as shafts go, the Ventus line is awesome. However, I am not so sure the black is the best option for your right miss but I'm not a fitter. I will say though, in terms of the ST Max, a no-upcharge shaft offering is the Tensei White. It is classified as a low-low and could be something worth trying before committing to a Ventus. Hope you find something that works!

  • 3 weeks later...

Listening in on the topic, seems that beside driver, shafts also affects direction of your ball.

Anyone has experience with low spin draw bias shafts?

I have the same issue as OP. My misses are more right ie slices.

I have a habit of open club face with driver swing. Low swing speed due to early extension too. I have my miss hit more on the top toe than heel or low.

I am using JDM Paradym 10.5 with origgnial anufacturer Ventus TR 5Flexs Stiff shaft. I understand I would need more lesson than anything else but if I were to look for a better fit shaft for my driver, would there be anyhing like a draw bias shafts?

Hope I am not taking away the topic and discussion, I know the original question is about draw bias driver, but I think the shaft could be part of the solution too.
