Spikeless shoe help Gfore/adidas/other

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

Been having a heck of a time finding a new shoe.

I currently have the Adidas S2G as my first golf shoe. It’s time for something new and while I am looking for something a little more stylish as I have been playing some Nicer courses.

Went to PGASS and tried a bunch of stuff on - liked the FJ proSL but wasn’t my favorite fit or look, tried the puma ignite and those felt like grip would be so so. I then tried out the code chaos which I loved and same

thing the the Gfore MG4 line.

Problem is when I got home I looked up reviews and it seems like quality of the Code Chaos has gone and most are lucky to get a year or so out of them. I like the Gfore but all the styles I like are their TPU and being in Florida I am concerned about breathability.

Anyone care to share some thoughts? I thank you in advance!

I walk 18 holes while wearing them 4-5 days a week. I've never had an issue with side nor any other sort of support. I remove the sole and throw them in the washer every time they need a bath (around a dozen times so far) and they've held up exceptionally well, and the waterproofing is still intact.

I've seen them at PGASS and a couple of courses that are Travis Matthew vendors.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Great! Thanks for that. I’ll check them out seems like I’m now MG4 vs cuater

CodeChaos 20 definitely has issues with durability.  This gets particularly bad if you practice off mats.  The soles will crack and the sole will separate from the Boost.

CodeChaos 22 seems much better.  The design of the rubber going up the outer edge of the shoe really helps keep the sole from separating from the midsole.  My pair of CC22 has lasted about a year so far and the soles are looking good. No cracks or separation.  This year, I only played about 5 rounds, but use a simulator like every other day.  I rotate between shoes on courses, but practice mainly with 1 shoe.

At the end of the day, Adidas (like Nike and many other brands) are all about disposable shoes.  I doubt these are expected to last many years.

I just wait until they go on sale.  I got my pair of the CC22 at 70% off.  I expect the CC22 to see similar sales during the off season as they are probably going to clear them out for a new model.  It seems like Adidas switches their soles every 2 years, so I'm guessing a redesign for 2024.  I'm happy to get over a year and maybe 2 years out of them if I'm buying them with a steep discount.

thanks for that detail. Perhaps my approach here is but both! I hate golf

What, exactly, is your concern regarding the shoe "breathing"? The Gallivanters are all-leather with a lining on the inside. They're not going to "breathe." Your feet won't be cool in them. By the same token, I've walked 18 on hot, humid days in the NE, and they don't become problematic or anything during the round. My feet don't slip or swell in them, and I don't get blisters from them. Might have a lot to do with the socks you wear with them, but... I really like the Gallivaters, and have zero issue with them being too hot or sweaty.

I’m looking at the MG4 which are for all intents and purposes solid plastic. The gallivaters were just an experience someone had above.

I play in Florida with mesh shoes at the time - we regularly get above the 100 degree mark. I’ve never had a non mesh shoe so I don’t know if it’s going to be minor or a major difference.

that’s in essence what I am asking. It sounds like it’s relatively minor. Socks is an interesting point

I hear you -- I'm just wondering what you suspect could be a problem if your shoes aren't mesh. With most of the pros wearing leather/plastic shoes with long pants in similar heat, I'm inclined to think you'll be just fine. But everyone is different.

I spent a ton of rounds wearing Nike Lunar Command-whatevers, which are essentially unbreathing, plastic shoes, and I just never thought about my feet being hot (at least not anytime before thinking that the rest of me was hot).

In fairness I am trying to validate am I over thinking it

All good. At least the MG4s (and even the Gallivanters) have softish footbeds and pretty flexible soles, so going from a lightweight, mesh shoe to one of those potentially shouldn't feel too different under foot. But, sure, maybe your feet could get hotter and sweatier. Probably impossible to know if it'd be a dealbreaker without actually trying something out on the course.

For me it is all about a trade off.  I tried the GFore MG4x2 which is more of a trainer than a golf shoe for many of the reasons you call out.  While it was probably fractionally cooler the MG4 it provided very little stability or waterproofing.  For me the MG4 was a good mix of everything I was looking for.

I had a pair of MG4 a few years ago and loved them

Probably the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn

I play in NOLA and with the heat had no problem

Only went away from them because my wife bought me a pair of OluKai

Love those too and have no issues in the heat with them either

Mostly play in ZG23 right now because I need the spikes with it being so dry here.

Let us know what you end up in

Driver -Cobra RadSpeed 9*

5 Wood - PING G425 16*

Hybrid  PING G410 22*

Irons - PING G400 5-UW

Wedges - Cleveland Zipcore CBX 54* ; Cleveland CBX Zipcore Full Face 58*

Putter - PXG Battle Ready Closer-34"

Ball- Wilson Triad
