Measuring Putter Offset

Do you look down the shaft and see where the face intersects the shaft?  Or, do you set the face vertical and see how much of the shaft juts out past the face?

The second one? But there’s loft on the face, so do you go from the topline or the bottom of the face?

First pic for me usually, say that's 1/2 shaft or abouts.

that’s what I thought, but when I ground the putter and set up with my normal shaft lean, it looks more like pic 2. Which got me to this post.

If it's hard to see I just grab a pen, line it up with the shaft and see where it hits.

It's measured to the "leading edge" or bottom of the face

I’ve actually done this before, but I use a plastic ruler. It’s still hard to make a determination sometimes though. I swear, some of the reported one-shaft offsets on some plumbers necks seem wrong to me. Sometimes it seems like more than one-shaft, but maybe I’m measuring wrong or something. That’s why I like TP Mills plumbers necks. It’s almost always less than a full shaft offset and it looks like it’s less.
