But he is w/o doubt, depending on how you look at it, the #1 or #2 GOAT.  Also probably one of the most mentally tough athlete finishers I’ve ever seen.  He clearly still moves the needle for golf, as @bscinstnct points out so well above. 
 

And I’ve grown to respect his behavior during his recovery. Never gives up (albeit a couple of withdrawals clearly medically warranted). Seems to have gained new respect for fans and competitors and perhaps the beginnings of some humility. 
 

Life will teach us all that. 
 

 

The biggest change that I’ve noticed, and appreciated, in the recent years is his willingness to now give real answers in interviews. It’s nice to not always hear the same stock answers all the time.

The harsh reality of it is that all the money in the world and all the motivation and determination of a human cannot reverse the damage he did to that leg.

With that injury, he will simply reduce the remaining amount of steps that he can walk in his career if he decides to play more tournaments and do more "reps". Catch-22.

if only there was a league/competition that allowed him to get 'half' reps without walking.... to bad that circus tent blew down ;}

Jack Nicklaus played in 142 events after his final win including 59 majors. That's playing around 10 events a year for a decade and then fewer and fewer after that, though he did play 8 times in 2000 at age 60 the year he seemingly passed the torch to TW. He had a few good finishes by my count 12 more top 10s after his final win but nothing better than 5th. He was especially good in the Masters where he placed 7th in 1987, and then 6th in 1990 and 1998.

 

Tiger on the other hand has only played in 8 events since his accident age 45 and his best finish was T45th at last year's Genesis Open. I hate to doubt the man but it sure seems like it's over. I'd love to be wrong though!

Yep.

 

The funny thing is Tiger wasn't playing well before his 2021 accident either. He had the Zozo win in late 2019 and a top 10 at Torrey in January 2020 but then in his next 8 events his best finish was T37. Then he had yet another back surgery followed soon by his accident.

 

The point is he was already in a bad spot before his car crash and for all we know he wouldn't have won again if it didn't happen. Honestly, I think his crash helped him refocus on golf.

We already had Tiger's last hurrah with his 2018 Tour Championship, 2019 Masters, and 2019 Zozo wins. 82 wins and 15 majors isn't too shabby.

Just stopping in to see if anyone has gotten the exercise science/human performance experts from yesterday in the PGA Championship thread in touch w/Tiger yet? Knowing he doesn’t have the means nor resources at his disposal otherwise, I’m certainly hoping that’s the case. I’d like to see Tiger make the cut at his next tournament.
