Odyssey 10 - strange alignment

Luckydutch

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or is the alignment on this club odd?

I feel that with a neutral shaft, the face is a fair bit open. To square the face, I have to set the handle a fair amount back from the face which is really awkward. It doesn't feel natural to deliver the club like that and I have to adopt a very strange setup to make it work.

Anyone else have experience with this putter and able to advise?

Shaft probably not installed correctly, usually throws things off on mallets with double bend necks.

Is it something that can be adjusted?

I know club pros are extremely reluctant to attempt any bending on these types of necks.

Have to remove the shaft and then re-gule it properly. It's one of those things where a few degrees the wrong way can throw things off.

I would hate this. I really think it's a big disadvantage to fight hotter before making your stroke.  I play a Seemore Mallet that lines up perfectly square...also has the RST technology just in case.

It is!

I have to setup with the hands just off the inside of my trail thigh which puts my in a very strange, lop-sided position. It can work but it's definitely a disadvantage vs being able to setup completely neutrally.

100%

Just fixed one recently at home because of the same issue, just opposite, where it sat closed.  I would always override how it sat naturally by turning the face (otherwise the shaft leaned too far forward if it sat square by itself).  It was annoying, and not the only double bend putter I've had like that.

It's the nature of double bends - they can be installed rotated off in either direction.  You have to rotate the shaft to orient it however you like it sitting with your normal hand position.  I like the shaft vertical, so when setting the club to let the epoxy dry, I just hold the grip end with a vise while the clubhead sits naturally (on a stool) with no shaft lean.  I switched to a straight shaft with a Golfworks full offset hosel, but it's the same setup to install correctly.

You can take it to any club builder, or try doing it at home... It's really not a hard job.  Mini butane torch to break the epoxy and remove the shaft.  Remove all the epoxy residue (wire brush, file, sand).  Clean with alcohol.  Epoxy.  Setup a place to lean or clamp the shaft/grip to when it's sitting how you like it (vice on a workbench works great but you might have to raise the putter by sitting it on a stool or something flat).  In your case you'd rotate the shaft a little clockwise looking from above.  Let the epoxy cure.  Done!

The alternatives (worse options) are to manipulate the face with your hands, or you can play with lead tape on the bottom of the putter head to prop it to sit better, though that would obviously change the weight.

Yup it's super annoying, one reason I don't like double bend shafts cause just a little off on install and bam putter flops like a fish out of water. That's probably why slant necks are getting way more popular, still have minimal toe hang but they usually sit square.

The other reason could also be but not really an issue on the Ten is the mallet being so back weighted the COG is way back as you probably know. More of an issue on Spiders than these but just more info for people to read and understand.

Same 😆. My 2 current putters I had to take them out and put in straight ones... just preference.
