2023 TaylorMade Spider Tour Series Putters

Brentwood

Recommended Posts

After a few weeks of trying to convince myself I putt better with my NP2, I pulled the trigger on a 34.5” Tour Z on Taylormade’s website.

I probably hit somewhere around 200 putts with one and it honestly feels like one of the most “point and shoot” putters I’ve ever picked up.

She’s a beaut - My 2 new beauties should arrive shortly and I’ll post pics…

The finish will be fine, this isn’t 2017 anymore and they’ve learned their lesson.

Are you looking to adjust weights? I’ve been busy preparing for the arrival of my new babies and have ordered numerous different weight levels - Can’t wait to tinker!!

I'm thinking about it maybe down the line. I'm really liking the stock weight of the putter at the moment.

I have found most of the back weighted Spider putters to be a bit on the light side for my taste, promoting a pull (likley my stroke, not the fault of the putter). A bit more mass makes these mallets sing for me, not to mention the MyTP Soto's I have also have 20g weights on each side - Bottom line, my personal taste...

Wondering how the front-weighted Spiders (V and Y series) feel mass wise, not had a chance to hit with them.

Way better than the back weighted ones in my opinion

I’m also curious about the counterbalanced model of the Spider. It looks like my nearest store has the Tour Counterbalance option. I may give it a go as I’ve not had any luck with L.A.B.

Here she is! This thing is very stable - more to come in the future. Promising in regard to keeping my stroke in check. I have a tendency to come from the inside a bit and this keeps it from happening a lot less.

In my opinion it‘s really annoying that the L-neck version is only available in the custom-program.

That's how i feel about the center shaft option and it's only available with the spider x head.

Not sure why finding the headweight is so difficult - It shouldn't be, over the years TM has included the weight in some putters but not in others...

Anyway, the 'wing weights' are adjustable and easy to find so you can tinker away as well to get the correct set-up for you.

Out of the 4 spider tour series shapes, which one is the smallest or most compact?

The Spider Tour V is the most compact...

The weights are situated more forward for more of a 'blade-like' feel, if you prefer the standard back-weighted, high-MOI versions the most compact would be the Spider Tour X. Hope this helps.

Any idea if they are smaller than the older generation Spider EX putter? I have that one and thought it a little large

(I posted this in another thread, but thought it was interesting enough to post here as well...)

Interesting Rory's comments today re: his commitment to mallets now vs. blades...

He won't be switching to a blade anytime soon if you are to take his comments seriously (Sorry Cameron blade worshippers). The really interesting part was as he was watching/commenting after his round today at Riv, he was commenting that Scheffler should be using a mallet and just hasn't got there yet (Although not in a hurry to tell him as he doesn't want to see Scottie get any better LOL)...

Perhaps with his frustration on the greens at the Genesis Scottie will be back trying his Spider Proto at some point soon.

Rory appears to be solid with his new Tour X3, and don't see him playing around with other flatsticks this year if he is to be believed.

I bought one of these yesterday at the PGATSS in Kennesaw, GA.

This was a totally unexpected impulse purchase. I rarely buy anything new at retail and I was actually in the store to check out the new LAB DF3 which they didn't have yet.

I have been counter-balancing my putters for ages but I've never owned a putter longer than 35".

Something about this putter plugs right into my subconscious. It's easy to set up to, easy to align to my target and controlling distances is very intuitive.

My usual cheapskate process is to find things I like at retail and then shop around for a bargain either used or product-cycle stale. Not this time. This one worked so well for me I was afraid to put it down!

He was asked to do a bit of CBS commentary with Amanda R. after his round while Scottie was still playing…

After Scottie missed a relatively easy 8 footer, Rors basically said he’s had his own putting challenges over the years, and felt that as he’s committed to a mallet, it’s forgiveness over a blade has made him a more consistent putter of the ball.

He went on to say he would like to see Scottie go to a mallet as well, but caught himself and laughed saying selfishly maybe not, as ‘Scottie has so many other advantages’ ….

It was a pretty cool moment.
