Csx LS….Downwind

Long story short played king k last week and for those unfamiliar it’s designed around the trade winds of Maui. 8 straight into the wind, 8 straight downwind, and 2 crosswind. I really struggled with shorter approaches downwind until I got very aggressive flighting down wedges the last few holes when I got it “figured out”

I play a chrome soft x ls and have been for the last year. I regularly play in some type of wind and have loved everything about this ball. With 20-30+ downwind breeze I was seeing the ball really get knocked down from 120 or so in. The last few downwind holes I got very aggressive flighting it down with some extra club  and liked the results much better although I felt I was doing that from the start but needed to do more lol. This is something I can’t say I’ve really experienced too much and not something I’ve considered in a “wind ball” before.

Has anyone experienced this with the LS?

Wouldn't worry about it too much; when the wind gets that strong any ball is going to struggle. Strong tailwinds have the same effect that wind shear has on airplanes. Getting a strong gust of tailwind at the wrong time means rapid loss of air speed which means "bye bye" lift.

Makes sense. I Guess it’s something you notice when half the round is played in those exact circumstances whereas a normal “windy” round presents all kinds of angles.

I've tested quite a few balls... The best for me has been the Left dot, then AVX, then Chrome soft x LS, then chrome soft X (just as good with driving but not as good with short shots). Nothings ever going to be perfect in my opinion but those 4 balls destroyed both srixons, prov1, prov1x, both taylormades and snell FWIW.

Way back in the days of high spin balata balls I experienced the same thing on some strong downwind shots with short irons... good contact, ball takes off exactly as expected, then falls out of the air well short of the green.  It felt stupid to do so at first, but it is why if the wind is particularly strong on downwind shots I'll take extra club and flight the ball down with short irons.

Compression and firmness and softness don’t really correlate to me. I think chrome soft feels harder than prov1 off the putter.

And that's why I said funny!!!  I'm in agreement with you on feel and feedback off putter and correlation of compression rating .....be that as may, the VICE PRO PLUS has impressed me enough that I'll give it more than a dozen I believe....normally I can tell in a sleeve 😉

The Chrome X's have a lower drag/lift cover. That means they will stall easier, just like an airplane wing if the spin gets too low. This is with any ball.

I play with Diamonds, they spin more than most balls, but are lower lift/drag. It doesn't have to be too much downwind to see them fall from the sky.
