Currently hitting Ventus Red 5S Velocore but seeing some lefts....

Recommended Posts

Currently playing my TSR3 10* head in a Ventus Red 5S Velocore playing 45".  It's really my first 5S shaft that I've played but I'm getting some lefts with it.  I played a Diamana TB 60S in my Paradym TD and liked it alot.  If I swing easy on the course its golden but if I try to get after it I can see some issues.  I'm wondering if going to a Blue TR 5S would be the ticket or if I need to just get back in a 60ish gram shaft.  Opinions?

Current numbers with Ventus 5S: 98-100 mph clubhead with 145-149 ball speed, 13* Launch, 2400-2900 spin, and 240-250 carry on a GC3.

I think you’ve made a pretty drastic change from your previous setup. Both quality shafts but I’ve read the Ventus Red is pretty soft in the middle to the tip, helping produce a draw. I’m currently looking for one because my Tour AD XC isn’t working for me anymore and I’m too stubborn to just go with the stock Tensei 1k shaft haha.

I have original Ventus Red, 5, 6 & 7 series, S flex.  Ventus Red 6 S was my first, then 5 and 7.  Also have 2 Ventus Velo TR Blue 5 series.  The S flex is in TSR2 10', and R flex kept in the bag for those mornings when my bones are tight.

If you like Red flight, then consider TR Red 5 series.  TR tip section will likely take left out of the game.  TR Blue 5 series S needs a solid swing, it's not as forgiving as Red.  Solid strike is straight as an arrow for me, so is R flex.

The difference between S at 44.75" and R at 44.50"; the former allows me to really go after it, so longer,   The extra length doesn't IMO contribute to distance because I choke down 1".  Ventus Velo TR 5 series R doesn't matter whether I go after it or not, it's always straight and only going so far.   Hope this helps.

Ventus Red is softer in the tip and mid plus you have dropped a weight class on top of that which explains your issues with the lefts.  It's changing your delivery into the ball especially when you step on one.  The TB is a pretty soft overall as well IMO but you did say you were playing the 60S.  Sounds like you maybe better going back to a 60 gram mid/mid-low shaft for better control.

Ventus Red is a lower weight class but it is on the heavier side of 50g (59g) to be specific so compared to the TB60 its only a difference of 5 grams.

Ventus TR Red will play in between Ventus Red and Ventus Blue, I believe.  The Ventus TR Red could be tipped to make it even firmer.

As far as weight, the TR Red in 5S weighs about 59 grams - so very close to a 60 gram shaft.
