It depends if you plan to play with both LH/RH players ...

If I had no desire to take it outdoors (I personally do) and I had the budget I'd go eye xo all day long.

Otherwise, the only reason I would go with a QED over a Mini would be if I were regularly playing with both LH/RH golfers and couldn't afford the XO...

If you don't have LH/RH issues, I would go with the Mini all day and wait for it to go on sale again, I picked mine up in September for $3500 new.

I own neither.  But, the club I was a member at for a few years installed QED sims.  Oh lord how I absolutely hated those things.  I have played on a number of different sim setups (trackman, foresight, uneekor, AboutGolf, and Full Swing).  QED, by far the least favorite.  AboutGolf is a close second.  But you could actually play a round reasonably well with that one.  I couldn't trust any of the data.  Drives would be a solid 800rpm backspin.  Even sometimes spitting out negative backspin numbers.  Yep, top spin apparently.  Not physically possible.  And this was with the special marked uneekor balls.  I know my game well enough and every time I used it during 3 winters of league golf, I left confused and very much not trusting any of the numbers. It was to the point where after one winter playing league, I thought I was going to spend all summer trying to fix some ridiculous snap hook low spin quacker problems because I was told it was accurate by the management and by users on other forums.  But, once I got out for my first round and had zero of those issues I knew better.  And it wasn't indoor swing syndrome.  I live in Fargo, ND and have been playing indoor winter golf for years.  Never have I had that problem.  I am talking an average drive of 180 yards. 200 if I got a lot of roll.  And as a guy who can swing 120+, that was super frustrating.  Ball would nose dive into hazards that had forced carry.  Snap hook left into trouble all the time.  It was maddening. I couldn't imagine that kind of performance after spending thousands of my own dollars on the unit.

I know some people like it.  I am impressed with Uneekor as a company and some of their products.  Their support is great too.  I don't want to offend anyone when I say this and I know some people are very happy with their QED.  But, personally, I think it's a steaming pile of crap that is mounted to the ceiling. It lacks in so many ways over competition in that space.  Just have to be willing to have a LM on the ground.

I now play primarily on a EYEXO system for leagues in the winter.  It is much much better.  But, still, I do not always trust the info.  Every time we play, there are a slew of sketchy shots.  The ball hitting the screen right of the target but starting left of it on the sim.  Or, some very much impossible left spin axis.  It's not every shot though.  It seems to have gotten worse since last year.  Then during the middle of league season there was some updates pushed that really threw things off. There was a very definitive drop in accuracy and dependability that pretty much everyone noticed.  Even the owners of the place were frustrated.

I actually took on the role of helping this place with their PC/Sim updates and break fix.  So, I went through last season and did fresh OS installs on all of their PC's, had to reset up all of their sims, calibrate them, install the sim software.  And, when that was all done, I was very comfortable recommending the EyeXO system and was really looking forward to the mini.  But, I have things slowly get worse and worse.  There may be some hotfixes that need to be applied.  They have not asked for my help on figuring it out so I just let it be.

If I were to spend that kind of money on a LM and was going to be willing to use a ground unit like the mini, I would 100% go with a BLP or GC3 setup.  I know multiple people who own them and they rave about the setups and how dependable the data is.  But, for me, I am more concerned with accuracy over sim play.  I would rather hit the range for an hour or two getting data vs playing a random sim round.

Or EYE XO refurbished for $7k.

Mr. Wolfe

This is a better idea.  EyeXO is a pretty decent unit when everything is working as intended.

Thank you so much for all of the info. Just curious, have you played on the ProTee VX? That’s on my shortlist at the moment. Thanks again.

Mr. Wolfe

I have not. Mainly just the ones I listed. I am hesitant if new or obscure brands for things like LM where technology and a lot of development is needed in terms of algorithms and such.

To invest that kind of money into an unknown would be hard unless I was 100% certain my experience would be great.

Uneekor is newish. And there are some issues from time to time. But they do seem committed to improving their product. As long as you’re using robust hardware that is designed to be accurate and measure the important data. I would be pretty confident that they’re going to make sure it works as intended. I just feel like it’s still a work in progress in a way. But I have no doubt trackman and foresight had their share of issues initially before cementing themselves at the top.

In my opinion the EyeXO is a better investment over something like the protee xv. Simply for the fact that uneekor likely has a larger customer base and has proven their commitment.

Is an overhead unit ideal for your purposes? Just looking to set it up and leave it in place? Accommodate RH and LH players?
