🤣 really?! 😂...right now, approx 1/3 out in front of garage - while I'm trying to reconfigure the space of a 1 vehicle garage into working space for golf work, fishing rod building, bicycle refurbishing AND woodworking...slow business at best.

My interest in the fishing aspect is to refurbish bamboo rods & also to build custom rods (especially fly & ultra-light), the golf side hopefully to refurbish vintage clubs (especially hickory)...eventually the garage will just be the place for my Hogan & other sets I want to play, especially refurbished hickory (to play), same w/the fishing side & I'm also a trained bicycle mechanic...So no pics now of what the garage looks like.

Nice to see someone with more than I have. It looks like you have a few Otey Crisman putters. How many hickory clubs do you have. I noticed a few in the one bag and I thought I saw a Mills putter sticking up.

😂 Oh my...I do have a number of Crisman putters, also Hogan, Crisman, Ray Cook (the originals) & others. I'm not exactly sure just how many hickory clubs I have - probalby in the 40 to 60 range. Wouldn't surprise me that there is a Mills putter somewhere in there. I also have a partial barrel of weird clubs, you know - the stand alone putters, a few that were shaped like major business concerns - oddball putters 😂...nothing as oddball as the NCC🤣-1701 U.S.S. Enterprise putter (designed by Jeff Sheets & accepted by USGA for tour play.

@bcstones, I have lots of hickory clubs including around 15 pre1900, at least 20 original woods, probably 100-120 irons, all are restored for play with the odd exception.

In classic woods, I have a few Hogan woods, lots of MacGregor, some Wilson and Powerbuilt and a few odds and ends.  I have traded away a couple sets of irons, I am more partial to Wilson. I also have a couple sets of pyratone.

You still have me beat.

I'll have to go look into the storage to figure out what vintage woods there are - I concentrated on persimmon woods rather than laminated, I know there are quite a number that may never be played again - maybe

I have mostly persimmon but a few good laminates as well. I don’t keep any projects that need restoration with classic woods because I can find good clubs for so cheap, not worth my effort. I will get a good hickory wood cleaned up as long as it has play potential, especially brassies, spoons, and cleeks which are harder to find.

@bcstones,

your photos made my accumulation of gear look measly in comparison.

when I showed them to 'she-who-must-be-obeyed", and told her that many other golfers have much larger collections.

it got her all nervous thinking I'm going to try and catch up.

Clearly this man needs intervention!

ok....come to West Central Texas to my storage & intervene....I've got a barrel of so-so putters & another of wedges (an Alien or two, I think...I have a set of Lovett wedges that make more sense than those) that need to find homes - more probably they will end up at my favorite thrift store....

I don’t have the SWMBO issue but since moving into my new refurbished apartment, I have less space and keeping a storage locker is worth more than the clubs long term. I am trying to reach a good balance and thin the herd a little. The objective is to sell more than I acquire which sounds good but harder to put into practice.

But thanks to @bcstones and others, I don’t feel too bad. Still, many of my friends’ wives forbid their husbands to look at my stash for fear of giving them ideas 😀.

I am feeling good at the moment but will be attending the Toronto Golf and Travel Show this weekend and four of our collectors have booths with some cool stuff. I am donating 6 hickory putters to our GHSC membership promotion. That means if I come back with less than 6 new acquisitions that I will be ahead. I would not bet on it.

I may take a few pictures of some cool stuff at the show and post it later.

Selling stuff has been difficult lately.  I have a few sets up for sale currently some I'm practically giving away that any less I might as well just take to the goodwill donation center.  It's certainly easier to acquire the mid century stuff than it is to sell.  Not sure if that holds true for the hickory gear.

There is more demand for good hickory clubs because there is a slowly growing group of players but I would not describe it as a hot market. Classic clubs are not really in demand at all which is sad. It is very easy to buy classic clubs cheaply if you know where to look. Selling can be a challenge as you have indicated.

To put things in perspective, it is not hard (at least here) to set up hickory events. Classic events are almost impossible given little interest. We are trying to revive some interest but beyond casual play by a small group of us have been unsuccessful.

It is very easy to accumulate a lot of old clubs, a huge headache if forced to liquidate. We get a distorted perception because on a forum like this we find like minded folks but when you get down to it, we are spread out.
