2024 ball testing….

This is going to be my space for my 2024 ball results.

I will be testing the following balls:

tour B x

tour B xs

tp5

tp5x

chrome tour

chrome tour x

pro v1

pro v1x

i plan on testing them all indoor first with my mevo +.  Set up will be 8 feet behind hitting mat with 10 feet of ball flight. I will place a metallic dot on each ball for better tracking.

I will start with pw, 6 iron, driver. I will remove my best shot and worst shot on each testing. Once I have some top choices I will then putt and chip outside and play to make my final decisions.

I am a 4.8 handicap and play maybe 20 rounds a year if I am lucky. I will update this posting each day that I hit.

current results:

Driver: Titleist 10deg tsr2 with hazardous black 6.5 setting at b1:

24 Tour BX:

24 Tour BXS:

6iron: Titleist cb modus 125x 1/2 deg upright:

24 Tour BX: 189 carry, 5,686 spin

24 Tour BXS: 183 carry, 6.194 spin

Chrome Tour X: 190.9 carry, 6,224 spin, 102.6 club head, 134 ball speed

Chrome Tour: 191.7 carry, 6,040 spin, 102.2 club head, 133.5 ball speed

PW: Titleist cb modus 125x 1/3deg upright:

24 Tour BX 135 carry, 6,908 spin

24 Tour BXS 126 carry, 8,082 spin

Chrome Tour X: 139.1 carry, 7,050 spin, 94.7 club head, 106.8 ball speed

Looks like a commercial for CTX…. 😉. Looking forward to seeing the driver numbers.

Thanks! I've done some on course testing with the Chrome Tour and have been very impressed. Also plan to test 2024 TP5x against Pro V1 and decide among the 3 which I will game this year. I liked the flight of the Pro V1 left dash and original Chrome Soft LS but they were lacking around the greens for me. CT seems very good on chips and pitches. If that or TP5x perform as well around the greens as Pro V1 but give me a higher flight w/o losing (or even gaining) distance, then I'm willing to switch.

Thanks for taking the time to do this testing and post your results! I'll be following along.

Would it be possible for you to post launch angle and peak height for each ball/shot, too? Thanks.

Just a note that indoors with a launch monitor isn't telling you much useful about the height of a shot with different models of golf balls.  All LMs indoors take the measured launch conditions and feed them into a single trajectory model (I've heard that it is the Pro V1 in most cases) and spit out calculated distance and what not.  But, all that is really telling you is how a Pro V1 will fly with different launch conditions.  If you're interested in how the trajectory of two different balls compares, you're either going to need to hit them for yourself outdoors, or use PING's Ballnamic, which has actually measured the full ball flight of each ball in their database.

Good post.  I've seen highest ball speed and distance numbers with the CTX and TP5x vs left dash and Vice Pro Plus my testing.  Don't have the specific numbers, but was seeing similar ratios as you on GC Quad with my ball speed being higher.

Man I wish the tp5x had more spin as it felt good. The Chrome Tour X still feels the best. Did not hit the driver very good today or my irons.

At this point I think I will try the Chrome Tour X on course with just the Chrome Tour and see.

still need to test ProV balls

the chrome tour x has the most consistent ball flight and does not have the huge fluctuations on distances. More than likely I think that one will win.

I always struggle with drivers inside as I try to kill it so I take those numbers with a grain of salt.

Man... if someone is looking to take spin off that new Tp5x looks pretty insane. Almost too much perhaps...?

absolutely perfect for me!

I am a high spin player so this ticks the right boxes. I only have tested the new TP5x over 9 holes but so far so good

Are these numbers posted somewhere that I'm not seeing them?

While I'm very interested in your ball results, I'm even more interested in your assessment of the Mevo itself. Just got one last month, but it has not been the best weather so I haven't had a chance to use it much. Quite interested to hear about how accurate you believe it to be.

Not to be a bother, but if you are doing this sort of detailed testing, I'd love to see a spreadsheet (or something) where you are comparing the balls with all 8 Mevo variables included. (At least mine has 8):

Ball/mph; Club/mph; Smash; Carry/yds; Launch/deg; Spin/rpm; Time/s; and Height/ft.

I got the Mevo on a sort of whim - was only about $450 (a far lower price than many launch monitors that track all those variables). Still wondering if it's numbers can really be trusted. Have only used it twice on the range, Seemed to slightly understate distance and SS, but slightly overestimate height (I have a fairly solid understanding of my numbers from enough Trackman fittings, and actual distances on courses).

Anyway, I, personally, will be very interested in your results, and thank you for taking the time to do this.

From my testing the mevo + seems to be pretty accurate. I will try to figure out how to post my excel form on here for you. If not pm me and I will email it to ya.

I bought this on a whim as well and have been very happy with it so far. I tried it once outside on grass and had horrible results and it didn’t track at all. I doors I’ve used it a dozen times now and seems to work well. I have been putting the metallic dots on the balls so the data is better.

Thanks. I'd PM you, but think a few people here might be interested. If you are using a relatively recent version of Excel, it has a "Save to PDF" function, and I'm pretty sure WRX lets you upload PDFs.

It sits right in between the '19 and '21 TP5x in terms of spin.  I have a box of those and CTX and will be using them interchangeably throughout the year after I go through the few dozen Vice Pro Plus I still have left from last year.

The numbers off the irons, wedges, and spin around the greens are very different between the old LS and new CTX. In addition it’s a couple mph faster off the driver as well. The Johnny Wunder show that. I would say the closest comparison of the new CTX would be last years CSX but once again the new ball is longer and spins more.

Depends on player I have watched all of JW vids as well. The more new videos I see the more the numbers are closer together except 9 and PW where spin is higher with new ball.

I am a fan of softer balls so the Chrome Tour felt the best while putting followed by CTX.

I need to go out and play with the CTX but that is the best ball so far for me based on numbers.

if I have the same luck as others with the short game spin I will be using the CTX.

I need to compare the numbers to another monitor but not sure quite yet how that’s going to work, need to find one.

everyone else seeing lower spin with CT vs CTX on irons??

These stats match mine, with the exception of speed/distance

CT 1000 less rpm with wedge and 300rpm less with 7 iron than CTX.  Saw slightly faster ball speed with CT on all irons.

I thought maybe I was hitting one better than the other to get the ball speeds but my smash was pretty consistent throughout with both balls.

I am hoping the CTX spins good on short game and I will be done looking for balls!
