2024 ball testing….

I thought maybe I was hitting one better than the other to get the ball speeds but my smash was pretty consistent throughout with both balls.

I am hoping the CTX spins good on short game and I will be done looking for balls!

No need to hope, it flat out spins inside 100yds.

That’s why I hit them with the 6iron again. Very similar results the other 2 times I’ve hit them. The BX has more of a gap too. For instance I had one ball over 210 and as short as 175 on a miss hit!

the CTX had a 15 yard or less gap and the left and right dispersion was much lower!

So ... sidebar - you liking the Mevo? Do you find the numbers to be roughly representing reality?

So far no complaints at all. I feel like the numbers are good. If anything the spin might be slightly low but I have nothing to compare that to at the moment to prove or disprove that thought.

Seen these kind of numbers a couple of times. Makes sense why Taylormade is using the “longer ball” story. Of course it will probably be longer if it doesn’t spin. Hate the whole marketing campaign as it doesn’t give any context other than “new ball, 8 yards farther” blah blah blah

Exactly. Not going to lie it feels great! Way better than I remember any TP5x feeling.

I will hit the tp5 when I get it just to confirm but my guess is it will be higher spin and shorter.

Low spin and lowest peak height of the 4.  Must be tough holding greens mid summer...

Been pretty crappy on updating this. My numbers from yesterdays post were off so ignore those!

Hit my 52 deg yesterday with the new Prov, Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X.

Results:

Prov 1: 123.2 carry, 8,271 spin, 93.9 club head, 99.9 ball speed, 27.5 deg launch, 53.3 deg land, 102' Height

Chrome Tour: 126 carry, 7,640 spin, 94.3 club head, 100.5 ball speed, 23.7 deg launch, 52.3 deg land, 100.7' Height

Chrome Tour X: 129.2 Carry, 7,247 spin, 94 club head, 99.7 ball speed, 26.5 deg launch, 51.2 deg land, 100.9' height

Did not expect the ProV to be like that. I will be trying that with other clubs and see as I like the feel of the pro V better than the pro v 1x.

If I wasn’t starting to get confused enough. Today I hit 8i. CT felt the best and results were on the side of CT not CTX

chrome tour X:  165.5 carry, 6,604 spin, 94.9 club head, 121.4 ball speed, 18.4 deg launch, 48.1 deg descent,  103.6’ height

Chrome tour: 172.4 carry, 6,794 spin, 96.2 club head, 125.6 ball speed, 20.3 deg launch, 51.7 deg descent, 122.8’ height.

feel like those two results should be opposite for the ball. The only thing I can think of is I like the CT softness better so I’m hitting it better??

Dispersion was pretty minimal. I am a straight ball guy with my irons so my miss was less than 10 yards left to right. Distance wise I was surprised. If I nuke it I might get 5 yards more. But just normal golf swings they were all within a yard or 2.

I’ve seen the same thing with low vs high compression. Driver I lose 4-8 mph of ball speed with the low compression models. Yet with irons I gain it back with the softer ball. Always feel about half a club shorter off irons and wedges with the super high compression but driver is way longer so it’s not good or bad it just is

That's a no brainer.  CT all the way for you since you say that the difference in dispersion is minimal between the two.  As long your distance control is consistent with the CT you should be fine even though it spins a little less.

Sleeves of Chrome Tour and TP5s purchased. Will grab a sleeve of latest Bridgestone an Wilson Staffs.....any try them when our course no longer resembles a swap and it gets over 8 degrees. Looking for a higher launch and medium spin off the tee.

Looking forward to reading your findings!

I have been going between the Chrome Tour and TP5x

Chrome tour and tp5x for me too. Any update @craz-e?

I think I prefer the Callaway due to the softer feel especially around the greens.

Nothing bad to say about the TP5x, it’s a great ball and IMHO the best version of it so far.

I am gonna grab a sleeve of AVX as well to see if they are a contender

Final Thoughts as I am between CT and CTX for the testing.

Here are the numbers. I think CT is the ball to go with, but welcome opinions (I like more short game spin).

DRIVER:

CT: 278 yard average (5 yard gap), 165 Ball speed, 2,307 spin

CTX: 272 yard average (14 yard gap), 165 Ball speed, 2,623 spin

6 IRON:

CT: 193 yard average (20 yard gap), 133 ball speed, 5,639 spin

CTX: 195 yard average (20 yard gap), 134 ball speed, 5,625 spin

8 IRON:

CT: 172 yard average (13 yard gap), 125 ball speed, 6,794 spin

CTX: 165 yard average (9 yard gap), 121 ball speed, 6,568 spin

PW:

CT: 134 yard average (11 yard gap), 104 ball speed, 7,610 spin

CTX: 138 yard average (23 yard gap), 106 ball speed, 7,145 spin

52 DEG:

CT: 126 yard average (14 yard gap), 100 ball speed, 7,640 spin

CTX: 128 yard average (15 yard gap), 99 ball speed, 6,629 spin

I guess I am leaning toward the CT as it feels better and the numbers are generally higher spinning than CTX. I don't know that it will translate to short game spin though. I expected those numbers to be the complete opposite for the ball.

*SIDE NOTE: the gap is taking the shortest shot and the longest shot, I found that I nuked a couple balls but I kept them on here for testing to see the difference.

I can confirm.

After a decade with the Tour BX, I'm done with that ball. The Chrome Tour stops on the green within a yard and usually less. Same as the BX, but I'm almost a club longer through the whole bag. It's just undeniably better, and has resulted in some amazing options for me. Being able to get 160m out of my 7i is just not normal for me. Neither is a 70% 3-wood totalling 210m. Drives going a consistent 255-265m is just like rolling back 8 years. 2030 is going to suck balls.

Watched a bunch of vids on the CT and CTX today and your data now has me in a mind funk!  I would have expected the CTX to have much greater greenside spin vs the CT.  I need to get a couple sleeves of each and see how they perform for me.

I loved the LS last year before committing to the Diamond however I just couldn't live with the lesser greenside spin.

Hit the 5iron today. CT still felt great. Now that I have narrowed that down as the ball I plan on trying to dial in distances.

for those of you that have dialed distances in before what numbers do you keep track of? I’m going to make a note card size chart for my yardage book.

thinking:

distances of

full

3/4

1/2

1/4 for the wedges

thinking of doing carry/roll for example 204.8/209.2

my mevo + has a pretty cool feature where I can do wind and direction. Was thinking a second chart of into the wind @ 5mph and 10mph as well as wind at your back?

for anyone that’s curious here are my 5 iron averages today….

CT: 205.8 carry, 4,590 spin, 102.6 club head, 136.8 ball speed, 13.6 deg launch, 43.2deg descent, 93.4’ height.
