I reckon the majority of later irons have gone downhill in terms of feel. Recently got a set of 716 CB and enjoy these more than a lot of the current stuff.

For GI irons, I would disagree. For anything played by lower handicaps, I agree as not much has changed.

They'll be going with me to Scotland this summer and I can't wait to take on seaside links with those instead of some rental set.

Played yesterday with 40 year old Golden Rams. Played better with them than I had been playing with my newer CB set, acquired last year. 950GH shafts in both. In fact, played better with them than most of my rounds with the CB set.

Why did I buy those again? LOL

It's the latest edition of a recurring theme for me, for the last 23 years. Rams just seem to work for me...

I 100% Agree with this statement. GI Irons have advanced far beyond early cavity back irons, even the eye 2 for higher handicap golfers. Lower handicap golfers, professionals, etc., can play what they want effectivity as anything new today. Not much difference unless your splitting hairs.

Loft for loft, I’ll stick to my blades from the late 80s. My miss is more on line and on good swings, I know what I’ll get out of each club. I just club up. Been down the rabbit hole of the whole jacked loft thing, only to always revert back. I’ll stick to old school lofts till I’m unable to get the ball off the ground. Then I’ll use an all hybrid iron set🤣😳
