I230 Thoughts?

I am going to sell my P770s and look to buy i230s. Ppl seem to be complaining about hitting them too high, but height and spin is what I want/need. Anymore feedback on turf interaction of the I230? Imagine they cannot be worse than the P770s, but would like to have an idea of how they will work in the soft mid-atlantic conditions of Maryland

I230's are wide sole so won't dig. They do have some bounce though which you either get on with or not. They will spin and give you height, you could Power Spec them to get in your 'window' if required.... It sounds like the default spec is more your requirement though.

This is helpful, thanks! I do great with high bounce wedges, so bounce and I get along well. You are right, sounds like normal spec should be the ticket. 770s have caused me to switch my ball from Prov1 to Prov1x due height and spin issues. Getting some additional height and spin help from the iron head would allow me to go back to the Prov1 which is better for the rest of my game

I had similar issues with the sole width of the i230's as well. On mats at an indoor fitting, the numbers were the best of the different options. However, I had trouble with the turf interaction when it came to taking them on the course. I've found that I get through the turf and strike the ball much better with a narrow sole. This is going to be person and swing dependent. Great iron for the right individual though. I loved them indoors.

My i230's didn't last very long in the bag for the same reason.  Just could not make the high bounce/wide flanges work for me.  After a half dozen rounds, they found their way to a cardboard box and FedEx.

If you like everything about the ZX7 except the look, I would go for them. A couple rounds in, you'll get over the looks. They're far too much in the "normal" range to be a problem over time in my opinion.

I switched from S55's to i230's last year. Found them lower spinning and more forgiving in the longer irons. But I did also switch to a stiffer shaft so that played an element in spin rate. Never had an issue with flyers or low spin knuckle balls etc, and the slightly more forgiving head in the longer irons versus the S55's was welcomed. I don't think I've lost any control and  I've personally never noticed any issues with turf interaction as others have alluded to, but different strokes for different folks etc...

PING don't release clubs they don't believe are offering better or as good a product as their predecessor. And the i210 was an all timer. I think that says all you need to know. Go to a PING fitting day and have a play around. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of their offerings!

"I don’t want to sacrifice feel"

As someone who plays the i230, you're picking the wrong club. If you want feel, this isn't it. I want results, and feel can naff off.

Scoring really well because of these irons. Spin is lower, but the CT ball still stops on the green. If you need that buttery feel, these are not them.

If you want performance, they're excellent in PowerSpec.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
