Kevin Streelman's Ball Marker?

I have no idea what specific marker he is using.  One like this maybe?

or the one quoted in the above post.  Not sure about the spike though; testing the green?

I recall there’s a detailed explanation about legal markers in the Rules of golf.

You think spikes on markers are illegal?  The ones virtually every course gives away?

I seriously doubt they use these on tour, or anyone does in an official event.  Weekend golf with the bros?  quite probably.
Hey,I got a pocketful of these crazy markers!   Free!

I am very excited for guys to not only spend a ridiculous amount of time lining up their ball but also their ball marker. Are ye havin a laugh?

Exactly ... Now they can go thru their whole routine with the marker on the ground, then remove the marker, then go through their routine again. While adding a spike mark to the green.

I can foresee Patrick Cantlay, have his head explode when he can't get the marker and the ball to line up on a 3 ft putt.

this has me thinking.....if someone who uses aim point, could you put lines on it and "clicks" for  slope?.....meaning i get my read (say 2%) give it 2 clicks left/right, then put my marker down and i just align my ball to that line?.....it would certainly make that process quicker.

True aim marker is already this concept. Just pick the line corresponding to the amount of slope.

I can see where it could potentially speed things up slightly. I've lately started experimenting with drawing those lines on my balls for putting.  Getting that line "close enough" in 3 dimensions is fiddly what with wobbling and not being able to see the ball and the hole/target line simultaneously.  A stable, rotatable ball marker with a 2-D line might be more readily aligned with the target line. Then, it might be easier to then align the ball's line to its adjacent marker's line.  Haven't actually tried it yet.

But, I do like the lines for putting and it's even been fun using the gadgetry for getting the lines placed.  Got one of those birdie LINERs that'll do three lines with their three pen colors. The grooves are too thin for my standard Sharpie tip and the markers that came with it eventually dried up.  I played with a *lot* of balls and stripes. 🙂 I did a "live chat" with the company to see about options for markers with suitably sized pen tips. They just sent me a whole new gadget and marker set for free - within like three days - all the way from Korea!  Oh, and I also used one of those "spinner" gadgets for getting the balls "balanced". Makes sense, I guess, but no idea whether it matters much, but also kind of a fun process. I'm easily entertained.

An unexpected side effect is that I started noticing marks on my club face.  As both toe shanks and hosel shanks can be a regular part of my repertoire, that has started coming in kind of handy. Have also started using the ball line as a quick target guide on the tee box.  A definite time saver for me.  My memory for just which piece of grass I'd selected a foot in front of the ball is not what it could be, and lots of grass blades look similar.  Currently only playing par three courses.

Not particularly, but I was asking an honest question. Assuming the ball marker was not offensive, I would be embarrassed to ask another person to switch their ball marker out because I didn't like it. I would find that classless and rude. FWIW, I usually use a quarter.

One of our regular group uses a poker chip. When it’s on or near someone’s putting line, he’s often asked to replace it with something smaller, which he does with no complaints.   Sometimes he’ll even ask  the person who’s putting if they want it replaced.

Both occurrences happen from time to time playing with a variety of people in casual games, and competitions.  I’ve never seen anyone refuse to do so or be irritated by the request.   Ive played 100-150 games a year for the last 25 years.

I use a 50 cent piece, unless I’m near someone’s line, then I’ll use a dime.

Pretty anti climactic seeing it, it's a plain circular ball marker with a black line on it. I've got logo ones from various trips I've been on with bigger lines for aiming.

Just interested for those of you who use larger marker and carry a smaller one.

does it bother you that much to just use the smaller marker rather than carry two?

I'm really minimalistic, so don't like to carry anything more than I need to is the reason I ask.

Personally markers don't really bother me, so unless it's in my line I don't care what others use

Smaller marker is harder to see from a distance, not for me so much, but others often don’t see it and walk all over my line.

I use the same aligner and markers. Have you thought of adding a towel to your bag too? That would drive me nuts not cleaning my clubs.

Do have a towel hanging there but it seems to get little attention. Did determine that it takes soap and water and a bit of scrubbing to get those marks off.  Guess I occasionally get around to sprucing things up throughout the bag. Don't make my bed, either, though. . .

Thank you for responding. I do use a poker chip I got from Valhalla from time to time. But I would swap it out if it bothered someone.

I have a lot of the larger ones that have the small one built in - so it doesnt bother me at all.

Even though I got Lasik a few years back and have 20-15 vision, I still have trouble seeing when guys use pennies or dimes on the greens, especially in the Spring and Fall when the grass may not be ideal.

So if you're in my group, use as big a marker as you want, no points from me for using something tiny and the same color as the ground.

Coincidentally, my regular ball marker is also from Valhalla.  I find repairing ball marks falls into the same category of fun-having as doing those lines on the balls.  As dcmidnight points out, items of this size and color can get tricky for some of us to "refind" - especially that similarly colored, dime sized one that used to remain magnetically attached to the opposite side of this repair tool.

Oh, and I *do* often clean the obvious stuff off of club faces - with the bottom edge of my shoe. And, considering even getting a new putter grip - if there weren't so many options now available. . .

Now you have me wondering about how folks around here go about playing the game. I have no idea how much of this is a local thing or maybe a covid related side effect, but about the only time anyone marks a ball here is if it is in danger of being struck by another's putt. Those thick poker chips offer little improvement over the ball itself in such an instance.  Won't get too deeply into moving markers a putter head or two, but not sure I've ever seen a player I've been paired with note the direction said head was facing prior to the change of "coin" position.  Try as I might to remember to note whether a player remembers to move that coin back, I never remember to. 🙂 That wasn't all that deep, was it?
